Do you have your cable plugged into your computer with the USB Software installed?

Contact ESS. Your cable may need to be updated if you haven't used it in a long time.

Edit: I tried to find the .exe for you but couldn't find it. ESS will give you instructions once they get back to you...

They sent me a link - xdcode.zip to code the cable. But it didn't work (photos attached). I'm still waiting for their reply, didn't know they're based in Norway...time difference

Disable driver reinforcement. Had a similar problem with gintani software

Click the Start menu and select Settings.
Click Update and Security.
Click on Recovery.
Click Restart now under Advanced Startup.
Click Troubleshoot.
Click Advanced options.
Click Startup Settings.
Click on Restart.
On the Startup Settings screen press 7 or F7 to disable driver signature enforcement.
Your computer will restart and you will be able to install non-digitally signed drivers. If you restart your computer again the driver signature enforcement will be re-enabled.

Thank you. I did that too and was able to install the e-flash software.

It was worth asking.

Most likely has to do with the locations (directories) of the files.

For example: On a 64-bit OS, E-Flash would be installed under "C:\Program Files (x86)". Where as this software was intended for a 32-bit OS and is looking for the cable params at "C:\Program Files".

Edit: I might add for future proofing yourself; This flash software to getting old and not keeping up with windows!! Find an old laptop to dedicate as a tool for you car. That, or create a virtual machine with WinXP.

I don't know if you've realized, but pretty much 100% of the software is identical.

'Tuners' simply insert their graphics

I can't speak about either of the tuners, what I'm saying is the software package is identical. The thing OP is having issues with happens with all tuners because they're all using the same dude's software

Use 3 different tuners (I have) and you'll see identical cables and interfaces.

The actual 'tune' is different among tuners

That's correct, all tuners use Bitflash to upload tunes into the car. The actual tunes themselves are different but the interface and cables are identical

You might be mixing your tuning & your k+DCAN cable. Make sure you are using the cable your respected tuner provided.

Well that would be a palm-to-forehead moment. LOL

My hunch was it has to do with the OP using 64-bit Windows but, I don't know if thats even true..?? Alex, have you used 64-bit before?

Any update, OP?

Ooh What do you mean? ESS only sent me 1 cable-obd-usb flash drive. I never had any problems for 3 years, until today.

Update:

I sent the cable to ESS HQ in Arizona, they ran some tests and found out that the cable was flashed with a different firmware, and the firmware was overwritten by something entirely different. Very strange! So they reloaded the correct firmware and sent it back to me.

Got the cable today and guess what...

BOOYAHH!!
