ACL rod bearings?
Guys,
planning and investigating for my RB "service" it turns out ACL is a more common after market shell over here. Sure BE is known of but as 3 times the price vs ACL they seem to have a challenge to get traction with the local shops. Till now never really heard about ACL, and apparently they quite recently added products for the S65, incl increased clearance. Curious about possible usage and track record. Anyone? BE bearings aren't that much more than OEM Clevite bearings.

Been focused on BE but they do add onto OEM and more vs ACL so got me thinking. Prio is obviously confidence in material and shop but worth while to reflect.

I have a few sets of ACL bearings here. They’re good lead/copper bearings, preferrable to oem imo but don’t provide the ideal clearance that BE does. They also make a .25 oversize set.

No, BE is .025mm, ACR is .25mm oversize. The .25 is used after cutting down a journal. ACR is the only one I know of making oversize bearings for when you spin a bearing and need the journal ground down.

Also, one of the shops claim they always reuse the OEM bolts, "since 30 years and on plenty S65/S85". These guys pay like $650 for a set of ARP so.... All I read says never to reuse the stretch bolts but as this shop is reputable Im getting confused. Comments? (sorry to keep drain you guys on info but thankful) Last edited by Helmsman; 04-27-2018 at 08:13 AM.. |

Bert @ BE Bearings has a set of the ACL bearings and will be measuring and providing specs as he's done on all the other bearings. The results will appear at the BE Bearings wiki page when he's done. Just not sure when that will be.

I heard about ACL bearings from a facebook guy(M3-Schmiede) during conversation about my engine failure. He looks like engineer and has his own shop. he said ACL RB was installed on his E92 M3. I asked him it is better than the others, then his answer was just "it works".
So, I'm searching more information about ACL RB.

Hello!
I´m not "a new guy" here. I´ve been lurking around here now and then and picked up all good information and thoughts on this great forum. I have recently tryed out the ACL bearings for my S65. I went for the HX 0.025 undersized versions (more clearence) with ARP rod bolts. The operation was made by me on jack stands in my garage. A quite doable task. /Tuningmann Last edited by Tuningmann; 05-05-2018 at 01:07 PM.. |
