Question: Did everyone receive their M with a full tank of gas?
Here is why I ask: I was with a friend last night picking up his new X5 4.8 and it only had a half tank of gas. When I questioned the salesman, he immediately responded that dealerships are only directed to put in $35 worth of gas. Is this true? Does anyone have something from BMW stating that the cars are to be delivered with a full tank of gas? I would love to print it and shove it down my salesman's throat! (figuratively of course). Thanks in advance.

i picked up from BMW Welt directly and the car only had about a quarter tank in it. It did come with a few gas vouchers though, but that would only fill it another half-tank. gotta love EU gas price. not.

My last 3 cars were BMWs and they were all over the map.
1. E46 M3: nearly empty but with a voucher to fill up at the gas station down the street. 2. 650 coupe: Empty and no voucher. I blame myself as I told them to only remove the shipping materials. Don't wash and drill for a front plate. I screwed with their routine so I deserved it. They offered to fill it when I came by, but I didn't care. 3. 650 vert: full tank |

Why not call BMW NA and ask them the policy?
Honestly though, I would not bother raising a stink about this. Who cares? I'd hold off on going into attack mode on a dealership until you really need it. You are just going to come off like a pompous jerk if you get all loud about some gasoline. |

I worked at a Nissan dealership for a short amount of time (job was eating me alive ), and the dealership didn't seem to care if the cars on the lot were filled up or not.
For instance, many of the vehicles which I took a test-drive in, were nearly empty! I suppose they do that in order to prevent a thief from getting too far?? Hell, I dunno. Though of course, we did fill up the tank for the customer after the sale. A salesman's job at a dealership is mind-boggling I tell you. Whoops, that's off-topic! My M3 was filled up all the way when I went to pick her up. |

Full! Thanks South Bay BMW!
+1. Mine wasn't full when I got it for Euro Delivery... I wonder if it's not customary to fill it up there because fuel prices are so much higher... IIRC, they said that it wasn't safe to store so many cars with full tanks in the Welt. |

When I picked up my 10 Coupe back in December, the car had just come off the truck about an hour earlier. I told the dealer not to even wash the car or remove the interior seat/floor/lower door wrappings. Of course the fuel tank was pinned on empty with the fuel pump symbol flashing. My salesman (CA, but i hate that term) asked if he should go fill the car up or give me a voucher. I took the voucher, went to the Shell station up the block and the car took 17.1 gallons of fuel. I thought the car only had a 16.5 gallon tank.
Guess it was close to stalling out. Come to think of it, the last time I purchased a new car and it didn't come with a full tank was back in 1985, a Corvette of all things. Even motorcycle dealerships fill up the tank. But I guess the way the economy is, dealers are just trying to cut corners any way they can. So to the original question, yes, I got a full tank of Shell premium fuel. |

It is totally dealer dependent. Honestly, I don't even remember if my car was full or not when I picked it up at the BMW Performance Center.

I picked up mine at the Welt, and I can't honestly remember I was so overwhelmed with all the other stuff they did for me there. I DO remember that I spent over $1,500 on gas for my trip, so one tank was a literal drop in the bucket. Once I hit the ring, I used a quarter tank in four laps

My last five cars were BMWs and they all had a full tank. Personally, I don't care too much but it seems to me like a good PR move to fill the tank when you have acustomer willing to fork in excess of $60K on a vehicle.

When I bought my E46 M3 It had just about full tank of gas which was my first car with that dealer, then when I got my second car with them (X5) they hooked it up with full tank and on my X6... I guess there is no BMW Guildline but the dealers ethics I would say. It would be messed up if they sold you a new car with NO gas in there.
