ODB Port Extension
With the ever growing increase of BMW being stolen with a key being programmed via the OBD port (just recently my mate 5 series was stolen off his driveway in Southgate, North London with no sign of falsed entry); an alternative solution to so-called software upgrade that BMW offer, which only seems to stop the windows lowering via the key lock needed to be found.
There has been a couple threads where some of guys have talk about moving there OBD ports or fitting aftermarket alarms (i.e. Clifford/Viper). The OBD port move seem to be the most popular solutions which offered a cheap and quite effective solution. My friend (who is auto electrician/alarm fitter) is offering a simple (plug & play) solution of moving the OBD port and also (if fitted by him); will wire the port to only be active when the ignition is on. Price for 1 metre long OBD port extension loom: Supplied £10 posted (mainland UK) Supplied & fitted £35 (within M25) If interested, please call or text him on 07714468045 (Pat)

Why not just get the software update? It's free.

Software update does not kill the OBD port so it works on ignition only. All it does is stop the windows onpening from the key.

Moving the port more centrally in the car will more likely cause the alarm to trigger with a thief moving around inside the car. |

I'm obviously missing something here too. This extension plugs into the existing port yes? If so wouldn't the thief simply unplug the extension to access the original port? Or, does this extension intercept the original cable before reaching the original port?

Guys, the original OBD port will be moved. It not just a case of plug an extension lead it. Please use the contact number provided if you want further details. I rather not go into too much detail on the forum.

I get it now, pull the port back into the dash, extend elsewhere (wherever you desire). Rings a bell now from discussions on E90post. So long as the owner knows where it pops out guess it's OK to discuss on here - the theives will know within seconds what's happened & either be more determined or just move on.
