E9x M3 Velocity stack PROJECT

Hey all, just wanted to make a post on here to see if there is any interest in Velocity stacks for the E9x M3. I have been playing with the idea of maybe offering them for sale as a few friends of mine have asked for a set. I have been for the past few months working with a close friend of mine to design and produce high quality 3d printed velocity stacks (with filters). These stacks will be printed using a very similar material in which auto manufacturers use on all their stock intake systems. I’ve seen many others execute this project without any filters which of course can lead to engine failure due to dirt and debris being sucked in. It is still in the testing phases so please let me know if you have any questions! The stacks in the image are a first test so it is subject to change!

S65 HAI [hot air intake]
WHYYYYYYYYY?!?!
Better yet...why not just cut out the hood power dome and make it a 'Shaker'?

This is a concern that I will be focusing on. Custom bits are in the works to help provide cooler air! This is a first mock up to test fitment! A custom tune is also the next step once fitment and accessories are ironed out.

id look at the variable velocity stacks on bikes, or cars that have them and then try to adapt that system first with vacuum or an electric actuator.

that's where you'll see the gains.

I’m sure this sounds awesome, but without cleaning up all the plumbing and wiring that is normally covered by the beautiful Plenum it doesn’t look very good. Maybe you can design a vanity cover for the valley to clean up the look.

The M3‘s factory intake is so well designed. I can’t imagine any gains are to be had here.

I am always a fan of people trying new things, so good luck with this project!

It’s been done a few times. If you search long enough you’ll find a kit that includes a carbon fiber shield and addresses the oil separators, if not for sale presently, at least a few photos to work from.

Good luck, sounds like fun!

Cool to see someone else attempting velocity stack tuning. This is the closest to the optimal velocity stack profile I have seen someone else using. I would be curious to see the gains you are making with them.

What are you using to test/prove your design?

Also, pro-tip, if you're deleting the plenum, there's no need to keep the hoses from the secondary air system or the IACV. You can just shorten them to their origin without negatively impacting them any more than they are with their current placement, with this setup.

Also, not trying to be Debbie Downer here, but it has been proven time and again that the style of filters you're using is disastrous for intake air flow. I know, people use them all the time as turbo guards, but Turbos have an advantage NA engines do not- you can just work the turbo harder to get the desired mass airflow, even though the intake is far from efficient.

This is an incorrect assumption- there are absolutely gains to be had over the stock Vstacks. I have proven it. I have a dyno chart posted on our plenum thread.

That said, please share PR plenum V2 stacks dev, to-date outcomes and anticipated release, particularity for PR plenum V1 stack customers as an upgrade option.

I don’t wanna thread jack this guy so hard as to start posting our dyno sheets here. If someone is curious, I think it’s worth the effort to go check the PR Plenum thread 🫡

Edit to add: I just delivered the CAD models for our S63 plenums to our 3D metal printing partners for a first prototype, so that’s finally…. mercifully…. thankfully off my table for a couple of weeks lol which means I can throw myself back into what I love for a little while: doing extremely low profit and time consuming development projects on niche issues for the E92 M3 🤣 in my time off from doing the stuff that makes us money, I’m going to try to finally finish the S65 velocity stacks as well as a quick little power steering project I want to mess with- a leak proof (but not sealed) cap and, if I have time to sort it all out, an electric over hydraulic power steering system to reduce engine drag and excess heat generated by drastically over-spinning the OE power steering pump. All while also adding variable power steering assist in addition to and not interfering with servotronic functionality.

Me and a few guys from the shop had a couple of track days last weekend and I missed 3/8 sessions because my power steering was overheating.
