Overheated gearbox or clutch!
Hi everyone, this symbol has come up on my dash a couple of times over the last 2 weeks. It doesn’t effect the way the car drives but a bit worried of what it could be. Is there anything I could do or check to see if everything is ok?

Top up the DCT fluid level using the correct BMW procedure. There’s a DIY thread out there on this forum. Avoid holding the car on a hill using the gas pedal. Instead apply the brakes when sitting on a hill waiting for a red light or traffic to move.

Scan for codes with a scanner that is capable of reading BMW specific codes. If oil is the only issue, perform a DCT service if not done before.

I went through a series of overheat warnings and got it resolved recently (I hope). These cars are all old enough where a DCT adaptation reset should be performed.
After my DCT service I still had an overheat warning appear, and after scanning the trans temp was actually within range. So the adaptation was reset. Prior, the DCT fluid level was full in the pan, but after the trans had taken up more fluid and was topped off. I’ve driven 3k miles since and had a track day, no warnings since. So it seems like even if the pan looks full-ish it can still be low. |
