Post Big built time. Custom Ti exhaust, CF Shaft, Eventuri, and more!

Hello everyone.

I recently purchased a single owner, never winter driven, completely unmodded '11 E92 M3 6MT. Here are some photos:

Name: IMG_4774.JPG
Views: 723
Size: 1.16 MBName: IMG_4777.JPG

The big 3 for this car have not been done yet. Throttle actuators, Vanos, and Rod bearings. The head gaskets are also a bit leaky, so I figured I do all of them alongside some power adders. Eventuri intakes and ancillaries, and high flow catted exhausts.

There are a few companies offering chip tuning for these cars. I wanted to know if it's snake oil or not. For example, this:

https://www.ecctuned.com/product/bmw...8-2013-stage-1

Anyways, let me know if you guys have any suggestions or concerns.

PS: I was gonna have the engine sent to VAG Motorsport for a proper 4.4L stroker build but apparently the lead times are almost two years so I'm gonna skip that for the time being.

Stock Dyno video and numbers:

Go with AlpineMSS or HTE tuning or BMP (vendor on this forum) for tuning. "Chip" was from OBD1 days (pre '96).

since when did vanos caps become a BIG item to do? lol might as well make that a Valve Cover job while you're at it.

Also if you want a proper tune, you go with Randy at Epic Race.

BPM, not BMP... www.bpmsport.com

Got my BPM stage 2 for almost 10 years now. Not a single hiccup. Can highly recommend.

Congrats on your new ride! Completely unmolested single owner fox red is a rare find indeed!

What a beauty! If you’re looking for that extra power, you could always go the supercharger route. Can attest that it’s an absolute blast. Might not be quite the same as a stroker build, but it’ll still give you that extra torque and better top end power you’d be looking for

Yeah I realized how special the car was the very first time I drove it. Me and my friend are brain storming a build. He's building me a full titanium exhaust system with 6 resonators and dual 300 Cell cats. Will be porting the heads, maybe a Schrick cam or something similar, full Eventuri intake and plenum, injectors, spark plugs, the whole 9 yards. With a tune from a reputable vendor, it should do just over 400whp without stroking it to 4.4.

Since the rod bearings, throttle actuators and head gasket need to be serviced anyway, we're gonna go all in without taking the entire engine out.

I really want to do a dry sump conversion as well, we'll see the total cost and how much money I'm willing to allocate.

The project is getting underway. Eventuri intake, BE rod bearings, Evolve Vanos kit, NGK Spark plugs, new OEM ignition coils, throttle actuator rebuild, valve cover gaskets, and custom exhaust with 6 resonators and dual high flow 300 cell cats. With a tune, I've been told it should put down just over 400 whp.

What do you folks think about shorter final drive ratios? Stock is 3.85.

Fully stock vehicle. Not a happy kitty. We'll get her going. Spark plugs, coils, and good fuel should take it up to at least 330 whp at 8000+ RPM.

Engine mounts were toast, new ones installed alongside a refreshed front subframe.

Hello, i live in city area and most driving in town and can suggest shorter final drive ratio. 4.44 is all about acceleration, wheel spinning and drifting. Back a days e36 3.0 m3 also uses 3.15 to 3.85 ratio and both cars has highway speed 100 km/h at 3000 rpm.

Some more updates. The custom Ti exhaust with valve controller and GESi high flow cats is progressing nicely. We're aiming for the entire system to weigh about a third of the OEM system that sits right around 100 lbs for the mid pipe and muffler.

We're also putting in a CF drive shaft with an upgraded dual plate organic clutch and single mass flywheel, as well as a Dinan CF strut tower brace.

Yea, having recently looked into getting some cats and resonators added to an already built X-Pipe, can't imagine how much working with Ti is. But if you're getting what you want then that's what matters.

Are you not planning on lowering the car? That cat placement can become a clearance issue, especially depending on what kind of roads the car will be driven on. Also, are you going with a forward X?

From what I've read, hitting 400whp on this platform with bolt-ons is a nearly impossible task. EDIT: Nvm, missed the part about cams and ported heads. Maybe that is possible then without a stroker.

M3SQRD runs a shorter FD and loves it, so that may be the ticket to liven up the car.

I run a 3.62 FD DCT Drexler LSD and it’s by far the best mod you can make with a NA s65, although I’d still use it with a SC. It’ll pull multiple car length through the 1/4 mile with an 8600 rpm raised redline (I don’t know what the difference would be with the stock 8400 rpm redline). For the DCT, you need to update the tcu software so it knows the FD has been altered otherwise you get lazier downshift throttle blips and it won’t upshift at redline in auto mode (not a problem for me because I’ve never used auto mode but my wife does). I strongly recommend Randy at Epic Motorsports. I would have gone with a 3.84 FD if it was a dedicated track car.

as much as i love my 3.45FD, I wish i stayed with the 3.62FD for sure.. i mean i make a shorter "ratio" with tire sizing, but man a 3.62FD with a LTW Flywheel would be more fun.. lol.

Absolutely! I have a 4.10 FD (stock 3.62 FD) Drexler LSD and lightweight flywheel on my e46 M3, combined with 18” wheels weighing

Ohlins Road and Track is the one we have been discussing. Most likely will be the one we're going to install. I'm not interested in slamming the car down, it's a road car and Toronto roads aren't that great. To answer your exhaust question:

We're gonna skip the head work and cams, at least for the time being. S65 is the closest thing to a race engine BMW has put in their road cars in decades so the head work and porting will most likely not have a significant effect. The heads already flow extremely efficiently so time and money is best spent elsewhere for meaningful gains.

If you're going for a no cost limit street build I would consider the TracTive Touring. I went from Ohlins to TracTive and love it.
