Rear Backup Camera Install - 2011 E92 M3

I have a 2011 E92 M3 6MT I just bought a Mr12Volt to update the iDrive, etc.

I saw it has cables for cameras (rear) and saw the install is not too bad yo add a rear camera and the camera fits into the rear trunk handle so a clean finish.

It seems simple plug and play but every tutorial I've seen has been a DCT or manual with parking sensors (which I don't have), I have read you need to splice into the reverse lights for the camera to activate automatically but some have said this is not required.

Has anyone with a manual and no parking sensors installed a rear camera without splicing into the rear lights or adding a relay, does the car have programming that even if the car is a manual the computer knows which gears it's in so mr12volt picks up that signal.

Did Canada get M3s with no parking sensors? They are standard in the USA.

The camera works with a 12v supplied feed, this has to come from somewhere.
I've found the best method is to tap into the reverse light wire, but use a Camera Filter, (available from Amazon and eBay).

This then smooths out the power supply and ensures a steady video image once seen on your screen. Then pass the yellow video feed cable (normally supplied with the camera) through the car to the Mr12volt box.
To set up, in the box settings page for "Car Setting", then to "Reverse Camera" you need it set to "After Loading Track". Then go down to "Reverse Condition" and for a Manual you need "Parking Key" and for an Automatic you need "Gear Position"

Hope that helps

Brilliant. I’ll make this my winter project on my 2012 E93. The car is DCT without PDC. I’m assuming the steps are the same as above - Ie. after loading track + gear position?
Any recommendations on the camera itself?

Derbo! Now there’s a name I haven’t seen in a long time… /meme

And I did sell it, it went to LA in 2021. Now I’m back, but with an E93 2 owner 2012 cab, bone stock with all the maintenance done. Can’t find them like that these days!
