Its very noticible, like a jet engine or fire engine siren winding up. But at crusing speeds on the freeway, you wont notice as much. I have a vert which of course makes it much more pronounced. In a coupe you are shielded from the sound in the cabin quite a bit. Same with the top up on the vert.

Its pretty amazing how fast I got used to the noise and how bad ass it is when you start to get into it. Its part of the fun, but you wont be subtle in pulling up at rpms that exceed 2.5k.

So true! I have had people pull over thinking it was a fire engine ;-) and I rally past.

That's a joke right or does that really happen?
I would assume it would with pedestrians.

I've never heard a factory supercharge PD sound like this.

Listen to the YouTube videos, I don't think he is!

Factory PDSC's typically have intake baffles and intake setups that reduce whine. On the S4 for example, folks would intentionally remove this baffle to get more whine. Then I also think the high RPM nature of this TVS setup contributes to the additional whine over other PDSC setups.

True story on the folks pulling over!! Its happened twice in the three weeks I have had the kit. It was a really old guy both times so perhaps his hearing was not that great.

Just read through this entire thread as I've been in love with this kit ever since I first found out about it. Back in April, I had the pleasure of meeting Mike and subsequently going for a ride in his car with this kit on it.

I don't know all the history behind others that have this kit, but let me tell you, Mike is a hell of a guy, extremely knowledgeable, and I would absolutely trust his word on this kit. I would love to see a Stage II kit released someday, but if not, the Stage I is still an absolute animal. Faulting Mike over the lack of release is ridiculous. The E9x platform, while still a favorite among many, is old news. Like Mike mentioned, the F8x turbo platform is much more capable with aftermarket, and we've already seen that.

For those that are unsure about this kit, I say DO IT. The car is completely driveable and modest when you want it to be, yet it completely comes alive when you ask it to. The whine is loud, there's no denying that, but its not obnoxious at all. Then again, I'm absolutely in love with the whine and how loud it is. Hell, I'd buy this kit just for the NOISE...

Anyway, after meeting Mike and picking his brain about this kit, I'm a firm believer in the kit, his abilities, and his word on the future of the kit. The internet trash talk is completely unnecessary...

Thats a great story, but the dyno's and lack of performance numbers show the truth

I was talking to a local shop in ATL that just finished a customer Harrop install.

A few points. They would charge $2k plus some fluids for install (I buy the kit). Fair? They recommend new bearings and acuators. ?

Customer car has full Akra system and tune. Made 350hp on dynojet. After it made 525. They sent me pics of the dyno screen. Full exhaust meaning no cats. That's impressive increase. They used off the shelf Harrop tune.

Stated the whine and performance are intense and insane. I bet.

We supplied the kit and tune to the two Atlanta cars recently.

Bearings is always recommended.

Actuators - depending on mileage - but if there aren't any issues this is by no means a necessity before a blower install.

2k for installing the blower seems a bit high. Should be more around 10hrs. Depending on labor rate I'd say somewhere in the area of $900-$1400.

Every time I drive my e90 I'm left impressed, and I daily drive a 700+ HP F10 M5.

The increase in power and torque is very impressive. Popping the hood is equally impressive

Figured i would post finally. Was a long project but was worth the troubles. Customer was ecstatic with the results. We had some issues with a Harrop component that finally got sorted. Mike's customer service (even though this isnt directly 'his' kit) was bar none. Granted the issue was one a Harrop issue at the end of the day, Mike put up with me and my shops constant nagging for assistance.

The Car: 2008 E92 M3 with fresh rod bearings. Stock vs MS downpipes and intake vs the same with our tune.

Did 3 pulls after installing Harrop and getting everything sorted. This is running BPMsport off the shelf tune.
Harrop VS previous tuned run

Harrop vs Stock

DCT slipped the first run (low fluid level) (when IATs were coldest thus the highest power level)
This run vs the next one.

all runs done in 5th on DCT.

hope BPM doesnt mind the log.

Timing is Conservative and fueling is spot on for the application. Intercoolers work very well as well.

Red Line is ESS kit Green Line is VF kit, both intercooled both on well setup E9X M's versus the Harrop. All on same dyno. Can email tons of dyno runs (drf) if anyone is interested.

More on same dyno from reference: www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=327183

Working through the last issues on my set up as well. Looks like my high flow cats were creating back pressure, dyno chop and loss of power. Going test pipes to confirm what's up and will dyno again. I'll be testing on the same dyno as 332iJunkie so we can check for consistency. Also, Mike called it first time as the issue, even though my shop was not sure since we rebuilt the whole exhaust at the same time. Thanks Mike for also working with me and my shop through the issues.Surprising all the trouble high flow cats can cause.

Every aftermarket "high flow" cat I've seen typically explodes in around a year causing a clog. Aftermarket companies don't have the budget OEs do to properly design a cat that can handle all sorts of abuse. A factory cat is typically 1k+, the aftermarket ones are $100 or so. OE cats are warrantied and will last 10 years, do the math and you get a cheap cat that will work well for a year or so.

I didn't even use the cheap ones and had the issue, Vibrant at $350 each. But it was throw away cash on this project...... wish I had just left that alone.

Since were posting pics today...;-)I met the car in the other project. Was really strange timing, what are the chances of two of these kits in the same zip code same month? Here are the Atlanta Harrop twins showing their stuff.

Happy Thanksgiving! I'm thankful to have a supercharged beast in the garage.

Yup.. had a feeling it was a flow issue..

Thanks Brad, hopefully new setup works better

+1 I love the Harrop kit don't get me wrong but I've never seen 2 "intercooled" kits perform that low as in this comparison
