This is what I was able to compile from this thread:

3011 OK arter
3511 OK arter
5211 OK CanAutM3
3212 Spliced ortho281
3212 Spliced Sleeper519
3212 Spliced OC3
3412 Spliced CSBM5 (Guessing from Aug-12)
3512 Spliced 1MOREMOD
4112 OK warp10
My new set of NT01's are 3212 (x2) and 4212 (x2). My last set were all 3212 and 3 out of 4 tires suffered splicing. I will use the new set back to back weekends in a couple of weeks and post my results. I will place the 3212 tires on left side of car, where they should be subjected to less opening (braking) forces on the splices.

Excellent info in there, makes it seem like a mounting and rotation issue. Seems pretty high maintenance to me and will more than likely keep me on streets even longer.

don't understand why you'd say its high maintenance? they need to be mounted as per page 2 of the toyo rr instructions.. attached.

and then rotated..

i'll try and get a replacement of my one tire that has this issue and then get these remounted as per the instructions ..

nitto should come out and release these instructions specifically for the nt01..

I've never seen this issue except on the NT01s. I see Miata's heat cycle out hoosiers and other cars run Pilot sports down the the cords so I'm not inclined to believe that this is a rotation issue. We are using info that seems to not be tested with these specific tires.

If I get a chance...I'm calling Nitto next week. But I tend to believe that the splicing and the severity has to do with the track surface and temps. I think a lot of us texas drivers are experiencing this splicing because potentially of cold temps and significant temp increase throughout the day because we do run over the winter. And the tracks here are kind of rough with the exception of COTA. All of this splicing here in TX has happened over the last couple of months under cold (sub-50) and wet conditions. My spliced tires saw some days that started in the low 40s and ended up near 80.

but toyo r888 have the same issue - I saw a thread on it on another forum, you can search for it and you'll find it. How can you rule out that this is not a splice coming apart because of incorrect mounting?

plus if you see the mounting instruction pdf.... the driver rear is coming apart for me because my lettering is on the outside but the instructions say it should be on the inside..

the temperature.. that is interesting.. that is the case up here in the pacnw too... all my four trackdays started in the high 30s and went to the 50s ambient temp.

Same issue but I'm sure manufacturers have different compounds and different manufacturing techniques and tolerances. In this case, I'm not sure I'm willing to apply what happens to one tire to other tires without contacting each manufacturer. The odd thing is I've seen plenty of NT01s ran to the cords with no splicing issues on a bunch of different cars.

Nitto is simply not getting an adequate weld at the splice. This is common in extrusion and plastics depending on melt flow and rheology. With the crosslinking already complete, the process is more challenging, but this is a Nitto problem, not a mounting/direction/etc problem. How many years have folks been running R6's with no problems. Nitto has a QC problem, and the Japanese are always the last to admit a QC problem. I have worked in polymers for a lot of years, and this has nothing to do with mounting your tires. This is 100% QC.

I'm pretty sure if this was a mounting problem that we would have been well aware of this complaint a long time ago.

I've never worked with polymers but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night...I agree that this is a Nitto problem.

Huh??? I'm too slow to see the humor imbedded in here somewhere. Holiday Inn and polymers?

P.S. I heard you guys had some great weather at MSR Cresson. Hail?

It hailed Saturday morning @ 7am and the hail rolled downhill and made ice sheets in several apexes...

Saturday was a wash until the last session, and even then there was standing water in the apex of big bend.

Sunday was great though!

Bummer about Saturday! I was signed up for this event, but had to back out to go to a wedding. I remember you said you missed the last MSRC due to being ill?

Was there saturday in Feb. and got sick, had to skip Sunday (and the only good weather!)

Ran a 2:30.4 this time in the before lunch session on Sunday, wanted a 2:29.99 but kept getting either held up or something else happening the last 2 sessions...

That's right, you left after Saturday. A very good time! How times have you driven the 3.1m? Feburary was my first time there.
