@mike:
yes, i know of the belgian guy and his switch from drexler to osg and that he was very happy afterwards. anybody i know of driving an osg is happy with it... except me :-( i dont think my unit is bad... as i wrote i guess it was set with too much negative preload (4x 3x 28kg springsets). i'll definitely give it a second try with the new setup that should lock way harder than the spec-s setup! here are some detailed pics of the assembly and installation: http://www.m3racing.de/umbau.html#3 when recently disassembling my failed unit i double-checked everything for possible failures or so. everything looked fine. |

Wow what cool videos.
Great LSD info which is grossly lacking on these forums IMHO . VAC I want an OSG for my D!

a few days ago i put my new os giken setup in my m3 with the 60/60 instead of the 35/25 ramps and 7 instead of 5 active clutchpacks. and i also reduced the negtive preload from 336 to 224Nm.
before: after: here are some more pictures of my new setup: http://www.m3racing.de/umbau.html#8 now it locks way to hard. i tracked the car yesterday and it was really nasty to drive. well, at least it is the proof that the unit works at all (after the weak locking performance of the spec-s). i am really wondering what setups other guys are driving in their track cars??? as os giken is said to be quite popular in the states, can anybody out there tell me what setup they use in an M3 racecar (or other FR cars)? |

i'll try to remove the current osg setup asap, as it really sucks.
then i'll install the drexler casing but with a completely own setup and different internal parts... i am still thinking of what i will exactly assemble. i definitely hope this will then be my "benchmark" setup that i will compare the other units with. concerning the os giken i am in close contact with the european supplier and i already have a concrete idea of the next setup that i'll try. i still hope to get some infos/suggestions from mike/vac but so far he did not reply to my request. obviously the osg is really tricky to setup with the amount of parameters you can change and the few setup-informations that are shared. the drexler/zf style units are very well-known to me and i drove these units in various setups in many cars. so i do have less problems finding a proper setup here. and then there still is the titan traction master laying around in my garage. but as i wrote, i am still waiting for the carbon discs that should be delivered within the next few weeks hopefully. |

i drove some welded ones.
but well, i know nobody that has ever driven a proper lsd and still prefers a welded ;-) but for budget driftcars this might be an option. |

today i switched the os giken (custom) spec-x (which was a pain to drive) to a heavily modified zf unit with custom, selfmade clutches and other machined parts:
http://www.m3racing.de/umbau.html#11 more info on the new lsd will follow soon when i have driven some more miles with it... |

yes, this is the way i will go next time. the 1.5way pressure plates again but all clutchpacks active and 224 instead of 336 neg. preload.
a collegue will test that setup in his M3 E46 now. if he is happy with it i'll give my unit a third try. for now i am quite happy with my current zf setup. really fun to drive :-) today i installed a kaaz lsd into a 188 case for my E36 (as there is no kaaz for big 210/215 diffcase so far, i need to test the kaaz with another car). and i recently got an offer for a cusco but the pricetag was tough... i am not sure if this unit is worth it as it is quite conventional... anyone does have experience with cusco lsd units? |

mike, what kind of oil do you use with the osg?
i used castrol syntrax ls 75w-140 (fully synthetic). can this possibly be a reason for the misbehaviour of my unit? i came across that as kaaz strongly suggests to use their own special grade oil and if not, at least a non synthetic one! but afaik osg also uses synthethic ones, 80w-2xx and now also a 75w-140 for racing purposes. |

We run the OSG OS250R oil on cars without a cooler.
Cars with cooler get whatever good synthetic 75W140 we have handy - usually Motul. ps. KAAZ has a unit for the 210 E46 M3

really? if you mean the DBW3020 unit, this one will not fit in a 210/215 case as it is a 188 size unit. (i have this unit here)
changing ratio to 3.46 (as kaaz says is required) doesnt help as 188 and 210 are simply not compatible. if you have a different part-nr. please let me know! |

The OS Giken is an amazing unit in a track car, and quite comfortable on the street as well.

after a few thousand miles with the modified zf unit i am pretty happy with it.
it performs unobtrusive in normal driving and locks quite good when driven hard. it handled just like i expected it to do! next time i install it, i'll even switch from the current 45/45° ramps to some more shallow ones. now i installed the titan traction master with sinter-clutches (as the carbon discs are still unavailable and are getting more and more expensive). the titan unit has a huge assembly clearance and therefore you hear (or "feel") a clunking noise when releasing the clutchpedal and the pressure plates push on the barely loaded cup springs. besides that it feels quite unremarkable in normal driving although i have chosen the shallower 30/30° ramps for more lockup. i didnt push the car hard since i installed it so i cannot say anything about the locking performance so far. i am looking forward to hardcore testing it soon ;-) |
