As SVC just mentioned, I originally went with the Active Autowerke rear and loved the sound. Only received compliments and even my gf loved it. Eventually I decided to go for the power and got the Active Autowerke x-pipe as well, truly an epic sounding exhaust. With the x-pipe I got a nice power bump, but also the car really screamed all the way up to redline (with just the rear, engine noise took over at about 4500 rpm). I loved this setup and everyone else did too, but I finally made the change to Dinan rear with my AA x-pipe (there is no way I'm giving up the x-pipe gains) for something a bit more tame. I love my new setup, but I will definitely miss the epic noise of the AA and it will always get a vote for me

I listened to the stock and performance exhaust for my 328xi before I bought the PE. Then I listened to the M3 exhausts while I waited for the M3 to be mine.

Now that I have the M3, you can listen to a thousand sounds clips, nothing compares to the sound from the driver's seat. Not even close.

choosing the right exhaust set-up

Hey guys,

I am new to the bmw m3 world and I am interested in upgrading the stock exhaust. I want louder than stock, but still be able to hear the engine without to much drone...

Planning on a full exhaust system w/high-flow cats. Coming from turbo-charged wrx world I have a fully catless setup. Its definitely loud and smells a lot, however the muffler is more on the quit end, so its not as loud as it could be even though its catless.

Trying to decide between:
1 Gitani w/hi-flow x pipes
2 Eisenmann Race and Street w/connecting pipes
3 Akrapovič Slip-on
4 GT Haus (Eisenhaus)

thanks in advance!

Just an FYI, I've finally had good opportunities to finally listen to my Eisenmann Race at partial and full song with windows fully down and in my case, moonroof open. I had mine installed late last October and the weather has finally been beautiful. I gotta say I don't know why anybody takes these off and sells them! It sounds amazing with the windows rolled up and it's 2x's better with all windows open. Just the right volume and fullness/robustness. Any louder though and my old man ways would insist on something quieter but this is heaven. Amazing, just my .02 cents.

The video was filmed back in 2009, when there weren't many M3s around, especially M3s with after market exhausts who were willing to particpate in filming. So, the video is not an exhaustive list of all after market exhaust since many popular models like Akrapovic, innotech, UCC Corsa, etc. are not featured.

I just swapped my Megan to MRF rear and love the more aggressive tone but E. Race also sounds great. You still have cats?

open question from Noobie M3 convertible owner, I welcome opinions. I like the stock vehicle sound, it seems very balanced and a lovely intake grunt etc...

I really like the "complex" sound of the stock exhaust. And I only care about the sound INSIDE the vehicle, I drive almost exclusively with the top down. I am not concerned with the exterior exhaust noise since be outside the vehicle and drive it at the same time

Given those things, which exhaust would give me a little more interior volume, with a deeper note, with the interesting complex noise of the stock system while preserving my ability to hear intake noise.

Seems a dumb question but I welcome your opinion.

was actually considering the BMW M Inconel exhaust.

Thank You

Also was on the Gintani site (liked the deep sound) and see a "sport" and "race" rear systems, but do not see a "GT2" system. Does this mean anything?

Here is a quick picture of a Meisterschaft GT Rear with connecting pipes. Some people say you can't fit a diffuser with it. My guy put some spacers on the hangers to line it up nice

Please tell me you have videos of your Dinan + AA XPipe! I too have the AA XPipe with high flow cats and had the AA axle back. It was ludicrously loud and I could it stand it. I'm about to try the MPE with this xpipe, but would heavily consider Dinan as its supposed to be quieter.
