Is it just me or everybody wants to race me??

Hi fellas,

So I've had my 2011 e90 M3 roughly 5 mos now. It's not my daily so I guess I can say I'm fairly a newbie. Though I've only been driving it on weekends I noticed that other performance cars, modded cars, and even loud 335s wants to race me or keep up with me. Not sure if my driving speed is prompting them to do so or just the mere sight of an M3 causes this reaction? I do oblige to the "challenge" when I'm in the mood (or just really in a rush) but rather not when I'm distracted. I definitely do not engage when my fam is with me.

Is this part of the ///M life? I always thought other beemers are suppose to be allies and you don't race challenge them. Are there any unwritten rules in these situations??

I've owned my car for over 2 years now and I haven't had one person want to race me as odd as that may sound... I geuss the real reason is because I drive a 4 door... it's not a real M anyway

why do you feel its not a real M?

I've always felt the lack of torque in the s65 just makes you feel like you're having to kinda thrash it to keep up with modern day variable transmission minivans off the line...

Couldn't say anything more true. I keep thinking of trading the M3 for a M2c. Then again, the nature of the v8 is to wind it up lol.

This happens to me a lot as well but mine is Santorini Blue so it stands out quite a bit

I could careless that this car has less HP than most modern cars today...

The drive of this car is what I fall in love with each and every time I drive the car. It feels so special to me...

No you've got plenty of horsepower but not much torque and the way an s65 is geared from the factory it makes you feel like you're having to put your foot down for city stop and go driving at traffic lights etc. because everyone else's car is geared for city and highway driving up to highway speeds. The m3 is opposite, it's fast from 60-130mph.

That's speaking from a 6mt view anyway

Yes sir, I have a 6MT as well. And I see what you mean but if I rev out the gears it doesn't feel slow at all.

Depends on where you live. I'm in Florida and every douche wants to race me.

It's the most bizarre shit I've ever seen.

I've also been complimented at red lights and in parking lots, which is nice.

My car is LeMans Blue with full exhaust and 19" forgestars though, so it kind of stands out.

But people in central Florida are poor and a 94 civic is fancy. If you live in Southern California, you're basically driving a garbage pale, nobody gives a crap, at least that's the feeling I got when I said people complement and try to race me on a thread a few months ago. Even if they did they'd never let you know they like your ride.

Personally, I think I should get more race challenges and compliments. People should stand at attention and salute M3 drivers as they pass...

Because we're on the way to our wallet's funeral.

Lol yea sometimes I feel like they want to prove something like they are as fast or faster. I guess I better get used to it. Nice santorini blue is definitely a head-turner! Mine is alpine white

These are 5-10 year old cars that sell for as little as $15-20k. Most of the people who want you to give them a run could buy an E9xM3. Give them a run instead of acting like you are too special for them, and if you lose, man up. I have lost and won.

No doubt, I love them too. Last of a dying kind, ringing them out every time you drive them is what makes them! You feel like you're racing traffic cuz of the car

In 2019, properly maintaining an E9x M3 outside of warranty is what separates the men from the boys.

Also.... banks aren't so quick to hand out $20k loans on a 10 year old car.

People might be able to afford a $300 car payment, not many people can walk out of the bank with a cashiers check for $27,000

In my opinion the e92 M3 was never designed to be a 0 - 60 or 1/4 Mile car ... That's what Mustangs and Camaros were for in the day.

Also why would you even waste your time in a race against a minivan at a stoplight ???

Sure they could buy an e9x, but could they pay the operating and maintenance? it's like a second mortgage every other month.
