I'm not certain that's what it is, but Tischer couldn't figure it out, despite running numerous diagnostics. It may be worth mentioning it to your SA just to see if he is aware of the issue and checked for it. I'll only take my car to Passport for significant service now, despite being all the way around the beltway from me. That is where my M Coupe was serviced also; very good facility and work.

So...quick update.

Maryam called and we spoke. Cyclinder # 2 in DONE! Probably a bent valve...in which case an engine replacement. If it's just a stuck spring...they will fix that. Either way, we are talking 19 hrs of labor to take the head off (passenger side head) and dig.

So when it's all said and done...I will probably sell her right away. 2008 E90 M3 Interlagos Blue with 50k on the clock and a BRAND SPANKING NEW S65.

If anyone is interested or knows someone who is...I am going to start entertaining offers when everything is complete.

So....it's not the previously documented LITTLE issues that others here had...

Why sell if you're going to have a brand new engine?

This generation is reaching the end of its production cycle and let's be honest-this engine has been bullet proof compared to the M engines of yore. BMW learned their lesson with the E46.

Wow. Glad you have warranty! That would not be cheap.

Damn good thing you have the extended warranty. Now I'm worried if I need to purchase the extended warranty. Since my car is tuned and catless, I'm even thinking the extended warranty probably won't even cover my M. Sigh

BTW could you ask your SA and see what caused this failure 'bent valve" and let us know what we could do to prevent it happening to our engines. I can understand if one abused the hell out of the engine this would happen.....

As of now...I think it's an anomaly...a stuck spring could have caused it. Nothing you do can avoid it...just pure luck.

I certainly didn't abuse the engine

Now why in the fuck would I even consider doing that? If anything... I will ask more if there is a new engine in it...the car has been solid and taken care of.

You probably aren't going to get that much of a premium selling the car, probably a lot more value in keeping the car at this point since you have a new motor.

Ok Good luck selling your car. Isn't it funny that you do not have confidence in your car hence selling it as soon as you can, but you expect others to pay premium. No worries. I was only passing the information to a friend who was looking for a 4 door. Also when I said sell it to me cheaply, it was a joke sir. The car is no salvaged or anything. It will go for what the market determines fair price.

i'm no engineer or tech, but they need to replace the whole engine for a bent valve? incredible.

Really shows my lack in understanding on engine parts and how they work.

It's not a lack of confidence...it's more of a timing thing. I was beginning to look actively for my next every day driver...now I feel sort of pushed in that direction more than before.

Oh...and I was joking as well...sorry if I came off that way

I'm not 100% sure what the logic or justification is but I would guess it has something to do with potentially damaging the block, piston, head, etc
