installing OEM Carbon rear spoiler after delivery

Hey guys,
I just took delivery on a new 2011 E92 M3 in Jerez black, which has the competition package along with carbon front splitter, carbon roof, and mirror caps. I actually did not go with the carbon rear spoiler because i didnt like the pictures I had seen, but I am wondering now if I should have gotten it. I recently saw the Frozen black with spoiler which looked nice. Is it possible to get the Carbon spoiler still, even if my car has the lip spoiler? What would they do to place it? Thanks.

they would remove your lip spoiler (which may cost extra), and then replace it with the new spoiler...not a big deal, shouldn't take more than an hour to do.

Or alternatively if you wanted to get your hands dirty you could buy it

and then DIY

It does not require drilling. Some people have had success with 3M but there are questions of its durability and theft prevention. Using betalink glue is the dealer's and factory's installation method. If you decide to diy, you can order the betalink along with the spoiler.

Dealer installed mine and it came out perfect. I was unsure about getting it because in some pictures I didn't like it. I'm so glad I did because it looks awesome! I love it. Really compliments the CF roof and CF front splitters.

Got the dealer to install mine when it came in. Love how it looks and how perfectly it suits the M3.

I have an M3 on order. I am thinking about the OEM carbon fiber splitters and mirror caps. However, I am learning that the weave on the splitters and the mirror caps DO NOT match the weave on the CF roof. It is my understanding that the CF roof is a 1x1 weave, but the splitters, mirror caps, and rear spoiler are a 2x2 weave.

Can anyone confirm/clarify this?

Just had the BMW performance spoiler installed and haven't picked up the car. I had planned on picking up some CF gills and grills but now I wonder if they will match. I was pondering a Challenge diffuser also but I believe they are all 1X1 weave. How big of a difference will it be, is it that noticeable?

If you care about how well the carbon fiber matches (like me), I'm learning that you need to know:
  • The weave pattern
  • Whether it's clearcoated
  • Whether it's UV protected (against yellowing)
It seems like the mirror caps and rear spoiler would be the most noticeable mismatches against the roof. I thought I saw an early press release from BMW (back in 2009) that the OEM CF pieces were going to match. From the pictures I've seen, however, the OEM pieces do not look like they match the roof. The glossiness looks correct, but the weave pattern does not.

Can someone with the CF roof and some of the OEM pieces confirm?

Revived an extremely old thread for sure lol But yeah, I have the OEM CF Spoiler as well. It's nice and have held up pretty well thus far. I have only had it for less than a year though lol.
