Haven't traveled on my own in a long time, kinda nice making my own schedule haha
i haven't traveled by myself yet, but i think it would be great. i often go out to eat by myself when my wife is at work. she doesn't understand it, but i love it. i don't have to talk to anyone, and i get to eat and leave, and not wait for anyone.
i think traveling by yourself would be like that, but for everything. i would dig it.

Had a nice Friday off last week and did a track day at Autobahn country club in Joliet IL. It had been over 3 years for running the south course and 4 for the full. Regardless I was able to get back into the groove fairly well.

I agree its great once in a while, but i found that it gets old in a hurry.
i traveled with business and really grew to dislike travel in general, eating in restaurants etc alone.

Same here. 4 years and 75 countries, '94-'98. Saw, experienced, and ate some shocking and amazing things. Had no one to directly share it with. I'm totally done with travelling alone. That's not to say that a meal by myself with headphones and Audible isn't fantastic. I manage 200 ppl and have 3 young kids. I need a good bit of alone time. But maybe 5 hours tops.

Your line is pretty similar to mine through the south course but you take a different approach to that super-late apex corner on the north track. Have you considered diving deeper into the braking zone there (and keeping track-left) and turning in much later? The track pros have taught me that is the fastest way through there.

Great lap time! You're not too far off from my PB on my stock Grand Sport (2:40) on PSS tires. What sort of mods does your car have, other than the aero?

My end goal for my car:
Go as fast as a E90 can with no rear wing.

The last 10% is hard. I feel like I'm driving the nuts off the E46 in the low 1:29s. Then Eddie Nakato drove it earlier this month and did a 1:27.6 and he said the car may be good for a 1:26 with perfect conditions.

So... yeah. Driving God status knocked down a few pegs that day.

I'm running OEM pipe with AFE dry filter because there were several threads arguing that "stage 2" pipes actually increase engine temps and thus decrease horsepower aside from at like 80 or 100mph (don't remember exactly) and between 8 and 8.4k rpms and both the FOR and AGAINST teams didn't have much, if any, solid evidence, so I said screw it. Also I'm not gonna pay $1,000 for a Dinan or Eventuri carbon fiber intake :P

Thanks yea I was trying to get myself to go later in that turn. Sometimes it just feels like there isn't enough road. But your absolutely right I turn in way to early there. Just means I have a reason to sign up for some more events haha. 2:40 is flying especially for a stock car.

I was working on fixing all the understeering I was having all day. I still had a good amount in that video, but it got better. I think with more than two sessions (maybe 12 laps) I could in the 30's on those tires.

Car has some good mods. Moton clubsports, rd sport sways, pfc bbk, solid subframe, thrust bearings, Supersprint exhaust, Dinan intake. Weight wise it's pretty heavy. Maybe 3,700ish with me in the car.

I'm leaning towards drop in. Now the question: dry vs oiled

I always ask 50,000 questions and read about 250,345 threads on one subject before buying....and then questioning the purchase, to eventually saying fuck it, I bought it already. YOLO

OEM. If you really think you can feel 5hp, and it's worth the potentially reduced filtering, then by all means spend that money [that could've gone towards consumables]. The OEM setup is pretty efficient already.

That's why I just stick with OEM unless there is overwhelming evidence that the OEM part is going to cause a problem. BMW spends a lot of time on R&D. Discarding that because some vendor or aftermarket company spent an hour on the dyno seems foolish.

Interesting datapoint. Cross-shopped RLI track-day insurance with Lockton.

Lockton wouldn't let me put the second day (Im signed up for a full Friday and Saturday was $150 extra for two sessions between road races) and was $338 for the one day. A second driver (wife) was free.
RLI allows me to specifically denote two days and would cover a second person for free, was $266

Both total value $46,000 with modifications and a 10% deductible.

Weird thing about the Lockton pricing was that it listed a $296 policy and then $40 in various taxes and fees. RLI was just "$266 please". 15% deductible with RLI would be $236. Wasn't available with Lockton.

I use RLI. However, I like how lockton doesn't make you enter your car info every time.

I use K&N drop in filter because can wash and clean out/recharged. I believed it's oiled. Noticed a slight slight increase in noise. Very slight. Maybe a couple hp?

Good info. I wish my rate was that cheap, lol. Then again, I'm doing Road America which isn't exactly revered for its generous runoff room and low incident rate.

Why does the SCCA Track Night in America option drop the price by like 25%?!

Sounds about right which is why I've only ever used RLI. It's usually $198 for me for one or two days with RLI and $260+ with Lockton including all the of the car club discounts.

FYI Lockton goes by event, not days, so even if it's a 3 day event it's the same price
