Buttonwillow Performance Driving Clinic

Here are a couple pics from track day

In case it wasn't obvious (cause I'm ignorant when it comes to photography), these are taken by OC3's GoPro/Contour :P and that is his e90. The e92's pic is from the track photographer

My car is no where to be found in pictures :'(

love buttonwillow. great track and good place to learn. i probably have over 1000 laps. i have some critique for you if you would like some. good line overall, but at faster speed you will have to be razor sharp with it.

in general though, need to look much further down the track and not focus on turn right in front of you. thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the critique. 'twas my 2nd time out at Buttonwillow (& 1st time w/ those videocam's) & 8th track day overall.

Re: looking much further down, that's something I have to remember to remind myself to do it. Hopefully, it'll come naturally soon.

Hah, I'll leave it to Latebraking to explain that one.

I *intentionally* screen-captured that frame. :P

The photos herein were taken later that day (after driving 100 miles from Buttonwillow track, and nearly home). He's got same wheels on all 4 corners.

ohh, from the link you just provided, the wheels look like Volk RE30 or something else, not RAC.
So, whats up with that front Volk TE37?
he borrowed it from the black m3 with the spoiler?

The plot thickens. Let's wait 'til Latebraking sees your post.

he was chasing you, going too hot into a left turn, latebraking (like his nickname) & couldnt save it & put his right wheel off, bent it, & then borrowing the Volk TE37 from the e92 m3 with the spoiler to chase you again?
Ha!

Those arent TE37s on LB's car, they're Volk G2s.

I'm curious how your story will be now :P

I'll have him explain what happened hehe.

Its hard to learn after years of driving in traffic looking at the back of other cars. This is what i do, maybe it will help you as well.

when you begin braking for a turn, look to the apex. don't turn-in early though.
when you begin turning in, look to the exit. don't track-out early though.
when you apex, look for the next turn-in point.

even when there are obstacles in your line of sight, still make a habit of looking through them and visualizing the apex.

specifics on buttonwillow.

lost hill - you MUST nail apex. the car's right tires will go right into a little dip at the crest just next to the berm. most importantly, do not lift the throttle mid-corner. the crest of the hill makes the rear of the car light since you are also turning and its off-camber.

off-ramp - the line you use is tighter and generally used for low hp cars like miatas or when guarding the corner exit in a race. with the power an M3 makes, its generally better to take a later turn-in, late apex and get on throttle much earlier. you will catch many cars this way, trust me. ;-)
