Epic Motorsports NA Tune
Does anyone have any experience with Randy Mueller's Epic Tune? It seems that Epic Tune M3 are putting out high power outputs on certain examples I have seen.
I am posting this thread because I have searched for more people with experience and reviews with the Epic tune, but I could find only a very limited amount of feedback. All being good tho. Also how is the customer service if I would like to personalize or change features of my tune? 1000 bucks usd conversion to Canadian dollar and shipping is a lot for me, so I would like to fully justify this tune before I get it. The other more price friendly option I was looking at was Alpine tune which is a lot less money. Thanks guys |

Epic and ESS are very good
You see a lot of Epic cars at BMW Club races I have them on one of my M3's. Very happy To put it another way: you won't find negative reviews of them and they are not a sponsor. Other tuners are sponsors here and whenever bad feedback is posted, poof! The thread disappears! They have an army of fanboys though which are due to come in here any second... |

Is there a difference in tuning your car via Dyno Vs. using the obd port and cable to tune your car at home through your computer? I dont think I would have an access to dyno tuning, so I was wondering if I would be missing out on anything vital.

No need for dyno time for most street tunes.

Thanks for the reply Shadow. Looks like I will be going with Epic Tune from Randy! After all they do tune race cars and that alone says enough about the work they achieve and deliver. Could you feel a gain of hp/trq in your e92 m3 after the Epic Tune? How was the power delivery throughout the powerband after tuning your car vs. before? Was there more available use of low end torque for putting around town? Im pretty excited, put my Bimmerworld X pipe on last week and that alone gave my butt dyno a sense of increase, a tune will compliment it so i am told.

In midrange the difference is bigger than at the top, so you really notice it. I used to have one of my M3s with a tune and the other without and there were zero doubts about which was which! Good choice with the BW xpipe! |

All the off the shelf tunes from most big names are going to be super similar and you're really not going to notice a huge bump in power. It's when you start using different fuel like race gas or e85 is when tunes vary quite a bit. If you just plan on running normal octane, there are plenty of other routes for half the price like Alex Alpine with his stage 2 tune, the Dinan race tune for catless cars (this still exists, there are vendors that still sell it. Dinan does not sell this directly anymore).

Just to touch on this dyno vs street tune a little more... Source: Am Tuner. Street tunes with proper data logging are better for daily driven cars, as the major difference is throttle inputs, right? Track driving, it's *mostly* 0% throttle or 100%, just the nature of the beast. Whereas street driving alot of time is spent within the 0%-maybe 40% throttle range. Data logging for a street car allows a tuner to more accurately portray the throttle/fuel/ignition maps to cater to the specific driver/car as a pair. This is why remote tunes with no revisions are 99% of the time, not optimal. Just like opinions and booty holes, everyone has a slightly different driving style.

it is safe to say that Epic tune is the best available tune on the market. From my experience, it offers more mid range torque than any other tune and you can feel it. Look at some curves. There was very nice MotoIQ project done that explains it in depth.

Well one does not have to taste shit to know it's bad
There are several 'tuners' on this board who don't have a clue. I would sooner run a stock tune than use them. I don't need personal experience, just reading comprehension and a long memory. And read this forum often, because those 'tuners' are able to have entire threads deleted. I don't want to be spanked with the ban stick, but suffice to say I'll use ESS and Epic on my cars. There are a couple more I could use. And a few others that I would never, ever use.

I think one thing that gets overlooked on tunes a majority of the time is driveability, as dynographs do not reflect anything of that nature. It's not just ALL about the HP and Tq gains. If the car constantly bucks around and does stupid crap, I would consider it a terrible tune. Even IF it makes the most power/tq beyond all other tuners. Just my $0.02 though.
