40ah AntiGravity Battery Coding Question

Hey guys, I recently bought a H6 40ah AntiGravity battery that I am now trying to code to my M3. The mechanic and I found that the lowest setting for ah was 46 using his coder. Since he doesnt want to risk doing that, he suggested buying a Carly and using that instead, since it has a 40ah option. Is this true or is there an easy way round this problem? Thanks

I coded with bimmer code and the lowest they had was 60ah and eas said that was okay. I've had it for a few months now with no issues. Been checking voltage and it's been good.

Did you specify that it was an AGM type battery?

46Ah is lowest setting available, use that.

I was able to successfully use the Carly to program the battery as a 40ah one. Do you use Carly for your clients?

FWIW, the Voltphreaks I have in my car is similar capacity and was registered as a 40aH with CArly back in 2016 and is still going strong (as is the rest of the charging system)

Considering Carly may not actually be coding the registration properly, I'd say that's a result heh

Carly does not properly register our batteries. I would have it done another way to be sure.

I believe what options are available are set in the firmware of the battery module, thats why some people see different charging rates. I also set my antigravity to 60ah as that was the closest, no issues after a few months so far.

Anyone kind enough to have the proper sequence in ISTA?

Memory serves; Carly came before Bimmercode right?

I just purchased the H6 40ah and was going to use BimmerCode also. Do we need BimmerLink also though to register it? (or code it, whichever it is I'm a bit confused now obviously)

Bimmerlink to change battery type, Bimmercode to register.

If looking to have it done professionally, most independent shops will have ISTA or autologic.

So for E series we definitely need both? I have Bimmercode already

Edit: If looking where to purchase from, obviously EAS. Great price and support!

You'll need both if going from a 90ah stock battery to a 40ah (smaller) battery, so the alternator doesn't nuke the new battery. For those using the 80ah size, the sizes are close enough to which you can get away with just registration.

If you're local, we can change the battery type/register for you. Let me know.

Thanks Tom! So much misinformation floating around. Just for clarity and to have it in a thread, does the order of coding matter? Like need to use BC for h6 size 1st then BL for 40ah 2nd, or order doesn't matter.

I'm not local ty for the offer though. Extra $30 for another app though and I should be set.

It shouldn't, but I would change battery type before registering just to be safe.

Tom, my question is for BimmerCode they have the option for 46ah option but the lowest agm option would be 60ah. Does the lithium batteries need to be registered as agm? Or as long as the ah# is matching? That's been what's throwing me off, I was under the impression that I would need to register the battery as an agm option.

Go ahead and register as 60ah AGM if that's the lowest option you're provided. Other option is for lead acid.
