How often do you back into parking spots?

I worked valet back in the day so we were required to park vehicles rear-first.

Now it's been a permanent habit that I'm far more comfortable/talented at backing cars in. This includes in my own garage. Good/Bad habit
I honestly feel unsure when parking face-first now

Practically never. There is a clear delineation in the demographic of those who do, however.

Always because it’s just safer. I read an article once that said something like 5% of all driving is done in reverse but over 50% of accidents happen while reversing.

So when I first arrive at a spot I can easily see the whole scene and safely back into my spot. Then when leaving I have the best visibility by pulling out going forward.

I only go in forward if there's traffic waiting for me or I'm in a screaming hurry to get anywhere. Otherwise, I back in.

As for the garage at home, I back in always - and it really irks me when people drive in forward.

First and foremost: We were always taught to do leave vehicles in the 'drive away' position on the farm for bushfire and medical safety (you might be wanting to leave in a REAL hurry, those few seconds could save a life) - so it's second nature - like steering into a skid.

Secondly - most people have a footpath between their garage and the road, it's a lot easier to see pedestrians if you're coming out of your property forward.

And finally - I have a much better view of my passenger-side wheel position on the ground in reverse (thanks to the auto-dipping passenger-side mirror), I find it much easier to park accurately between all the crap I'm storing in my shed with the car when I reverse in.

I find myself backing in most often when there's a parking block in the space. The worst feeling is hearing that crunch sound if you've pulled in too far and the lip kisses the block.

Always. As others have said it is much safer pulling out. That being said, it does drive me crazy when I see people backing in that lack the ability to back in. How difficult is it? If you can't do it, don't do it.

I back in all the time when it comes to parking where ever I go including my garage. it just makes it safer to see when you pull out vs backing out

I reverse in to my gym and my train parking spots every day. I do not back into my garage because I like to start my car about 60 seconds before I leave (in the winter) and don't want those fumes leaking into the house. My garage is also really tight and I feel more comfortable doing it forward.

I always back in to public parking spaces if I can without holding someone up. At home I generally pull in forward because in my driveway/garage layout it’s a lot easier to do and backing out is no safety issue. If I’m unloading things I do back in.

Only time when I back in is when I park next to a curb and my mirrors dip so I can be as close as possible without curbing my wheels.

My car sits really low so I made it a habit to always back in. NFG if traffic has to wait for me (I get it in one try).

Never, and I shake my fist violently at the assholes that take sixteen times longer than necessary to inch backwards into a spot that they could have just slid right into.

The only times that I don't back in are in busy parking lots when the directional arrows are present in keeping flow of traffic in one direction. Parking places are typically at 45 degrees here also. I do not back into my garage unless I'm working on my car, but I live at the end of a culdesac so I have almost no traffic in front of my dirveway. Everywhere else, I always back in; as other have stated it safer exiting.

All the time, except in the slanted spots mentioned above with the directional lanes.

I don't drive a lot but the few places I do go (even my garage) I seem to always back in. Its funny bc I never use to do this till I had a summer job as a valet driver when I was a lot younger and we had to back cars in, ever since then I seem to do it out of habit most of the time

I feel there's too much guess work when pulling forward into a bay! Am i too close to one side? Am i straight ?

Always back in to take advantage of mirrors, reversing cam etc.

It depends:

General Parking - If I have the time I park rear first. It really is because the rear of the car is higher than the front. So if there is a parking curb there that is hiding I don't risk ripping off the front bumper. The camera is also helpful at seeing things that are low to the ground.

Work HQ - Have to park nose first. Some weird corporate policy.

Work Distro or manufacturing plant - Required to park rear first. Some weird corporate policy.

Garage - always nose first. My garage is not connected to my house so i have to walk out from the garage door. Also there is a large cabinet that the car goes under. So if I go rear first, I have to duck under the cabinet to get stuff out of the trunk, only to walk back to the other side of garage.

I generally back in since my front lip protrudes a little and I dont want to risk hitting a parking block. At home in my garage however I never back in as there is no reason to.
