(100%) First E93 M3 with Soft Close Door Tech in the world (DIY)

Hello folks,

I have done the soft close door tech on my E93 M3 recently and as usual i am happy to share with the community with the detail explanation. Officially the Fullest OEM retrofitted E93 M3 in the world.

Required parts :

Brackets :
Left : 51217174635
Right : 51217174636

Self Luck Nuts : 6x 64509123157
Hex Nut : 6x 63259128043

Lock Mechanism

Plug and cables for the actuator :

61-13-8-364-520
61-13-0-070-586

Here is the Wiring Diagram :

This mod requires no coding but you are welcome to add 323 as Soft CLose Option so ISTA can list on Option Menu of your vehicle.

It requires only 2 cable to be wired to actuator to make the mechanism work.

Pin 1 : Ground
Pin 2 : +12V

I have used Terminal 30G. The reason is Terminal 15 is only works when ignition On. Terminal 30 is always on. Terminal 30G only active when key is recognized. So as soon as the doors are unlocked it gives the juice to your Soft Close Actuator. Terminal 30 G located on the second raw of the fuse panel. First one belongs to Terminal 15. I have wired 2 empty spot one for Driver the other one for the Passenger actuator and put 20Amp per door which is required by the TIS.

I have damaged my passenger side while i was trying to figure out how the heck i am gonna install the bigger latch to my door, As usual i paid the price, you take the safe route with my experience.

In order to install the DAMN latch, there is plastic cover on the side of our door. Pop that, you will need a long extension with 10mm. That loosens the Window track which is on the way of the Latch! As soon as you loose that bolt, then you will easily move the metal piece to the outer of the door and will be easily install the new latch. (I have had 4 ding on the outside of the door and My PDR guy gonna take care 100%).

After the latch installation bolts might not align perfectly but after jiggling little bit, you will be able to install without an issue.

The important points are :

1- Make sure your windows is little bit open on E93s. On other vehicles you can keep it close.

2- Remove the foam cover by using razor blade since they re glued with Butyl tape and please use GLOVE otherwise you will mess your hands (Remember from the headlight jobs)

3- Remove the door panel by undoing all the plugs and put a side.

4- Installing the OEM bracket requires a single drilling and only 2 bolt holds in place pretty secure. (You will see in the pictures) The only thing is the actuator comes with pre installed bolts, you need to remove the screw and the bolt from the side you open a hole for. And place a longer bolt with the nut. Otherwise the preinstalled bolt is so short and wont be enough to install on that particular area because it is not a flat surface!

5- OEM Latch mechanism has 2 place holding the factory wiring around, you need to remove that in order to pull the latch out.

6- The same OEM latch also has a metal wire that comes from the handle and installed by two place, you simply pull hard starting from the top one and the bottom will come out easy so you can remove the OEM latch from its place.

7- Wiring the actuator is pretty easy and i did Factory Way to grab the wire from inside to door panel by using the grommet. Fish the wire with a 12 gauge wire. There is couple of empty pins in that plug. I used pin24.

The 12V goes to pin 2 on the actuator.

8- Ground cable of the actuator is Pin 1 and when i looked at the windows regulator diagram, Pin 1 of the Windows Regulator is Ground (Thin cable). I simply did Y cable for the ground. So pin 1 of actuator goes to Pin 1 of the Windows actuator (6 pin Plug has only 5 pin in it.)

9- The 10mm nut that you loosen up to put the latch in actually an adjustment nut. You just remember the position of it. And try to tighten up as close as possible so windows will not make wind noise while u re driving. But if you fail to do so, no worries, After you put everything back in place, you can still access that nut from the same hole you remove the cover off of. Which is on the side of the door panel. (Little bit under the Latch mechanism).

10- Driver Side is little bit harder than the Passenger side due to handle having lock mechanism. The lock mechanism has an extended metal that goes into Latch mechanism. Before you remove the OEM one remove the lock mechanism from the handle. Then remove the latch mechanism. Put the New Latch in place then install the lock mechanism back in place. After the driver side installed, my handle is little but loose, i have to figure out this later. But everything else working like a charm!

11- You are done. Enjoy!

Bro, There is no such a question "why" for a retrofit like this. Just great to have it. I do have on my F85 as well. And feels super good to close the door softly rather than slamming.

Very cool but I have to be honest, I never found just closing a door normally very taxing lol. There’s absolutely no need to slam a door to close it.

The very reason i did this is the slamming noise, doesnt matter how soft you close, it does make slam noise and every time i do close, it gets me!

I dont think e92 door too different than e93s since there is no window frame on top, but i have seen many e92 ad e93s and it does loud closing unless you gently close to door and force close by hand which i dont do often. With this , i dont even full close anymore. it does the force close for me smoothly.

And to me this was the recipe of my problem and 100% solved it.

Did this years ago to a coupe.

Still have all of the parts sitting at the office to do this to my E90 one day 😂

First one I've seen on a convertible. Definitely love that feature on my X5M. Planning on doing illuminated door sills and rear comfort access at the same time to kill three birds with one stone. The X5M has me spoiled.

Nice job !
