DCT overheating, anyone?
Well at the Glen yesterday, 1st session out with my e92. Just installed the new SLON DCT Pan, and can?t forget the CSF Tranny cooler I installed 2 years ago. Anyway 13 minutes into the session after 9amish.....earning light cake on for Transmission Overheating and goes into limp mode. Took a cool down lap, things were fine for the next few minutes then next sessions towards the end same dilemma.
Granted it was a very hot and humid day, but this is the first time ever I have experienced this. Also, shifting was a bit laggy. Anyone ever experience this? |

I was at WGI in June.
My DCT system is completely stock except for the Alex Alpine flash. Weather was hot & sunny; I had no issues at all.

I haven’t had any issues.
Are you sure you have enough fluid in there? Did you raise the passenger side up and add the extra fluid after doing a regular install of fluid? |

My Shop who did the install claim they did all the recommended steps, also after the 1st run...I noticed some fluid seeping through the felt undertray.

I posted a pic of my pan that was dry after 3 tough track days here: https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1425010&page=10 You definitely cannot be in a hurry when installing this pan. You really have to let the old fluid drain. And you really have to give the Loctite time to dry. We’re talking a solid hour for each. Of course, I have no idea how anyone else’s install was done. But I watched mine being done. I highly recrecommend not being in a hurry. |

Installed the mesh few weeks ago to prevent my cooler getting hammered from debris, who here feels this may cause an issue with cooling? I’m partial at the moment

It's more likely to just be contributing to the problem instead of causing it. I would first take a look at the effects caused by the splitter regarding the air flow in the area. A leaf blower, some paper strips, a camera, and plenty of time is all you need.

I understand the desire to protect the cooler and I can't see that mesh making a huge difference in flow, especially once you're up at 100mph or whatever.
To play devil's advocate: wasn't BMW concerned with debris heading in there? Don't you think they would've tested for that, and if necessary, placed a grille or guard in there?

^ Ya never know. This reminds me that the 997.1 ('07-08) GT3 had exposed radiators up front and the aftermarket came up with protective grills. Porsche addressed that after the 997.2.

If you add fluid capacity then I'd think you're more likely to overheat. Now the same size cooler has to cool even more fluid. Coolant temps would be a good clue since there's a water/oil cooler in the loop.
I would leave the DCT stock. Unless you're shifting a ridiculous amount or running sticky tires, the DCT should not overheat.

Mine is slightly more open and is made with round wire, similar to what Porsche uses for GT4 guards. I pull chunks of rubber out of there all the time.

Even when I ran conti scrubs, I only overheated once because I was shifting too much. Didn't get a warning light but was acting kind of weird. Ran 1 lap in 4th gear, never had an issue.
I did experience some slow/delayed shifting during hot days. Never got an error or limp mode.

a while back when i had the bumper off, i took the dct cooler ducting off and took some time to pickout the larger bugs, rubber, and gunk. i followed up with blowing air through it with an air gun backwards. it was enough to have to sweep the driveway afterward.
