Backup Camera thoughts

Hey guys, I'm thinking about purchasing the backup camera kit from Alekshop. Does anyone have any experience with the camera? I do not have rear PDC on my car, hence my interest in the camera. Also, is this a relatively easy DIY? Thanks.

If you do get one make sure you wire it correctly. We recently had a car at the dealer who had a ton of electronics issues because his aftermarket installed backup camera was wired incorrectly.

BMW doesn't have an OEM backup camera for the M3, correct? I would consider purchasing it if it did. Would you advise against the backup camera entirely?

Correct they do not

I've had backup cameras on my e93 335i, 09 e89 Z4, e93 M3, 11 e89 Z4

Love them. Makes parking much easier.

Front camera is great too (only on the M3, didn't have it on the others; was too cheap before lol)

I have an Alekshop one on my 08. Had a few issues at first, but after a quick email Aleks got me all setup with some settings that I needed to change in a hidden menu. After that, it has been flawless. Install took a few hours.

How do you get into the hidden menu?

I also have an Alekshop front and rear camera setup on my E92. It works great and has been trouble free. I would recommend having it professionally installed as you do need to tear apart the dash to install it.

I got a front and rear camera setup from alexshop.

Got my installer to do it.

Real useful in Europe where you have to park on a frickin' dime. You guys don't know the meaning of "compact" parking space. Your motorcycle spaces are bigger than our compacts in the Canaries.

Anyhow, had no problems in 2 years.

Called him (Alex) twice at the beginning; because my installer spoke no English; and he was good both times. And he was busy, I could tell.

Nice guy. Great product; that is completely integrated into the oem idrive and monitor setup. ....Brilliant.

I have the Alexshop rear camera installed and it has worked with zero issues. Very satisfied with the product.

I wanna do that when I get my car... but I am lazy and it seems like a PITA to take out the entire dash to get to the harnesses..

Let me know how this goes. I actually discovered Bimmertech has a PDC retrofit kit so I may end up going with that first and then installing the camera. I'd like to have both working through i-Drive simultaneously.
