Smoke coming from the M

Has anyone had this same problem? After my research, I've noticed many M3s have the same problem.

Probably once week, normally after stopped at a stop sign, white smoke comes from the rear of the car. It's normally followed by a burning smell, but I can't really pinpoint it.. Lastly, there seems to be a black powder all over the rear of the super clean mineral white paint.

While the car seems to enjoy this, I'd like to know if any of you have had this happen before?

I believe you may be experiencing "tire-smoke".. It's this new phenomenon where M3's were shipped after having the tires pressurized with smoke, rather than N2 or air.. Stop signs tend to allow some of this smoke to escape...

White smoke is not good. A little black smoke (esp if cats are deleted) is normal and indicates a slightly rich mixture. You may notice it when running through the gears hard, but white smoke is indicative of oil burning and probaly what you're smelling as well. I would have it checked out ASAP.

Hmm.. Good point!

Also forgot to mention, it normally only happens with DSC off.

Actually when you are burning oil, the smoke is not white, it has a blue hue. White smoke is water. It could be condensation. If it is really thick white smoke, it usually antifreeze. But the smell is somewhat sweet.

Ok.. I've pinpointed the origin of the smoke. It's now clear that the smoke is coming from the rear tires.

If it's blue smoke, not good.
