That sure is one of my points. Also, no flash support, no point for web browsing.

i'd hit it. i travel frequently on non-business so it would by much easier to haul and do basics than a laptop. lack of flash really is a big killer though.

Ah, okay. I misunderstood you. This thing's pricing is lower than I expected. I would have payed $1k for a tablet that can run full OS X. Oh well...

It's all about the Apps. Flash support could come later since it's just software update.

I'm glad I don't like it...one less device for me to waste my money on!

Why not get a netbook for half the price? They're just as small in size, only thicker and heavier.

what kind of tablet doesn't come with a stylus? It's too wide to type with thumbs, and there's no good way to set it down to type with your fingers on the home row, let alone tactile feedback to touch type. With a stylus and decent handwriting recognition software, you could hold the device with your left hand and write with your right, just like a ....wait for it...notepad.

Why not just use your iphone or smartphone for the limited things you need?

Exactly. But apple fanboys will kid themselves into thinking they really need this ultra-fail.

And i would hardly consider them that heavy. Plus who in the world wants to type out extended messages on a tablet?

It seems the consensus here thinks the iPad is lame. Not surprised. I'm sure some people's opinions will change when they actually use it in person.

because netbooks are slow, cumbersome, have equally limited features and expandability. ipad is supposed to be an internet device. that's all i really need on the road. i'm not saying i'm going to get one, because the lack of flash is really a huge killer for me. with the volume of websites that utilize flash nowadays, that missing feature really ruins it for me.

i hate the iphone, but i use my blackberry for everything else. only problem is 3" screen vs nice and shiny 10" screen. once again, we go back to no flash on the ipad, which will probably ultimately prevent me from getting it.

I'm not going to bother arguing in this thread, but I'll say that those who say it doesn't do enough or it's just a big iPhone really don't understand the product at all. Which is completely understandable since this is a new device category. It's not a laptop replacement. It's not a netbook competitor. A netbook is just a smallform laptop.

And it's not just a bigger iPhone. The iPhone has so many limitations because of it's size alone. If you looked at the apps in the demo, you'll realize that the iPhone is more of a shrunk down/limited version of the iPad. They are able to add so much more functionality and power into the iPad apps. The iWork suite was a great example of software that people would normally expect out of desktop-grade software on what is basically a mobile device. The iWork suite would never happen (at least not nearly at that scale) on the iPhone.

This article really sums up how I think about the initial reaction on the web:

A message to the Internets regarding the iPad:
http://cruftbox.com/blog/archives/001592.html#001592

And this is a great article on why we probably won't see Flash on the iPhone/iPad (which I think is a good thing):

Apple, Adobe, and Flash:

Maybe because it's a giant fucking iPhone with less features? And who doesn't have an iPhone or has used one before? Stop kidding yourself thinking that this is a useful device.

Also another feature that it lacks is GPS!!! it does not have a real GPS tracking device built into it.

Speak for yourself please. As I stated, this would be perfect for what I would use it for if I had a desktop instead of my MBP.

And what features is it missing from the iPhone?

Multi-Touch? Check
3G? Check
GPS? Check( on 3G models)
App Store? Check
ITMS? Check
16 GB storage?Check( up to 64 GB which is more then iPhone)
No contract? Check( again better then iPhone)
Able to pair with BT keyboards? Check( again better then iPhone)

The only thing the iPad is missing is the camera and ear piece. No camera is a disappointment, but not a deal breaker for me. GPS is useless on the WiFi models as when you would be using the GPS, you most likely be out of range of any wireless routers to load the maps.

The 3g model still doesn't have gps. It uses your wireless signal to give you a guesstimite of where you are.

I was reffering to the ipad sorry. But yes the ipad's gps works like the old g1 and g2 iPhones. It does not have an actual gps unit.

"Assisted GPS (Wi-Fi + 3G model)"

A-GPS is real GPS. It just uses cellular triangulation to speed up locating where you are until the GPS receiver has a lock onto your position with the satellites.

And the only iPhone that doesn't have GPS is the original iPhone. The 3G and 3GS has GPS.

Yeah the iPhone 3G GPS is independent of cellular phone network. You can have GPS without a phone signal. It shows your location but can't download new maps. (Using the free google maps)
