Brake Pad Warning Not Resetting?
A month ago I had my brake pads & sensors replaced by Mr. Tire (I know, but they were close by my haircut at the time lol). I already figured they wouldn't be able to reset the light themselves.
I let the warning light go past 0 miles, which I found out from here after that you can't reset using the stalk. I also tried the Carly app with no luck. Took it to a reputable indy who still couldn't clear them. They replaced all sensors and tried to reset it, but still didn't work. They said they have seen this before and have to code out the FRM module and restore it. Has anyone else experienced this? Or possibly know another method to try? The indy is about an hour away from me, so I'm just holding off on that if I can figure out another way.

Another way is what people with BBK do, is the connect the two wires on each of the sensors together. There's 3 sets that you will have to do and once you do it you can successfully reset it.

Are you sure they replaced the sensor? The brake sensors won't allow it to be reset if the sensors have not been replaced.
The sensor needs to be reset when replaced. If you wait, it will not know it hasn't been replaced. You may need to replace the sensors again and reset it.

Sounds like the sensors have not replaced, or are incorrectly installed into the calipers/pads. I'd advise re-checking your mechanic's work.

According to the tech, he stated they replaced the sensors and tried resetting - but I can definitely try myself when I get the time.
Is there a certain order I should follow when resetting them - all 3 sensors and then do the reset immediately after? With this method, should I use the stalk method or the Carly app?

You should be able to do it via the stalk if the sensors are okay and connected and seated properly.

Ive had what you describe on a 328xi that I owned. I had replaced the sensors and tried the reset but it wouldn't work. In the end I had to take it to the dealer and they used their factory diag tool to reset it.
If you have a multimeter, as the others have noted, when connected properly, you have a short circuit across the two wires, when the pads wear, the metal wears off such that an open circuit results...just check your sensor connections first.. |
