picked up a '22 f250 last year. loaded platinum trim, slick top. it rides incredible for it's capability, unbelievably comfortable. the seats are like fluffly leather couches that almost feel like suspension seats. the seats get hot, cold, and massage my back and butt on those long drives.
i haven't towed with it yet besides moving my trailer in/out. cameras everywhere, super easy to hitch up.
i'm very happy with the mirrors. the truck is huge, but the mirrors are large with a lower concaved portion. they telescope in/out as well. it also can be programmed to your trailer length to extend the blind spot radar, as well as assist in backing by predicting trailer path based on axle/tongue length, and overall length.
it has 475hp, and 1,050 ft/lbs of torque mated to a ten speed transmission. i have yet to take it to full throttle... damn thing moves at any speed. you're always in the peak power band. breathe on the throttle and you're at 80mph in a few seconds.
the 80/40 bench in the back is perfect for my kid and the flat rear floor is perfect for the dogs.

Can't imagine that torque, literally more than double the TQ vs my tuned X5 or F-350 haha.

Best purchase I ever made was the 2012 X5d.. best hidden secret. The cost of these cars is dirt low. Average 16-18MPG while TOWING going up to 80mph lol. It's about to "hit a pothole" and get another 100+ HP and 150+ TQ cannot wait going to be a completely different car. Looks amazing, handles great, fantastic purchase. Eventually looking to upgrade down the road to an 6.7L diesel powerstroke if money was no object..

my wife had a 335d and it was fantastic for most of the time we had it. once it hit around 129,000 miles, we started having some problems with keeping it smoggable. i believe our cars had the same engine.
problems we had that i could address were a vaccuum line melting, and the hot side intercooler tube leaking.
the issue i needed to take it in for was a leaking high pressure fuel line and walnut blasting for carbon buildup.

i'm sure i'll eventually deal with 6.7 powerstroke problems, but it will be a while. bmw diesels are starting to get some age and use on them so standby...

Same motor correct M57 diesel motor. I purchased the car with 122k miles, original owner car sold it because the emissions problems were coming.. The emissions failed on me two weeks after the 10Y extended warranty went out.. messaged BMW North America told me to kick rocks.

So the car rn is going to hit a pothole and will never have to worry about any of this The 6.7L motor you have is amazing def my dream set up. Looking at the '15-16 F350s looking at pulling between 12-15k lbs.

i presume you have a smog guy for the bmw... walnut that thing and delete it. should be fun.

take a look at the '20-22's, as they have the ten speed. all the youtubers that i watch say the ten speed alone is worth the upgrade from a '17-19 truck. the '22's have a larger infotainment screen that spans the entire width between the center hvac vents, but there weren't a ton of '22 trucks produced. the screen isn't really a make it or break it option thought- its just a screen.
prices are still nuts... there are trucks i see for sale on ig with about 20k on them and a few mods going for msrp.

I've got smog guy's or dealer plates im all set..

Depends when the time comes and Im ready to make the jump on the price difference. It's more of a weekend truck and just more of a tow pig so I don't think I can justify the higher price since I want other toys. Im already growing out of my can am x3 and am getting an itch for a full size sand rail.. I need to relax!

My buddy has one of these and has had a lot of trouble with the DEF system. Seems to be perpetually in the shop getting that addressed.

I have access to an X5 that can roll coal. I'm told that it is a f'ing monster! Although it could use some more sway control but apparently tows well. Just need to be mindful of the tranny.

The def is a known issue and comes with a 10Y extended warranty from factory. But if you were to have no EGR or SCR system theres no more issues with def for me.. been enjoying it zero issues and daily driver.

Dang making me wish we went with the diesel option, still loving my N55 X5 w/ air suspension and tow package installed. It's so much more comfortable than my dad's 7.3L F-350 + accelerates a lot faster. It has 85k miles on it now after putting 20k miles (6-7k towing) over the last 1.5yrs on the MHD stg1 tune without a single issue. Now that I bought the wife a Q7 and it's all mine, I might do kitten delete and stg2 tune for some more torque/MPG. Getting about 12.5mpg when I can keep myself under 70mph... Which is hard since it's so quiet with the 18" base model wheels.

Hard to think of a better deal on a luxury tow rig with these selling for ~$15-20k these days.

on the subject of being fast... came across this vid yesterday of the new high output f350 keeping up with a s197 mustang gt for about the first half of a quarter mile. pretty nuts for a truck that can tow what it can.

These trucks these days are coming equipped with 1,000+TQ straight from the factory.. that along with the 10speed tranmissions they're amazing machines but cost is really a step steep. The technology in the modern day trucks is what scares me (more motor & transmission wise) than anything else. The truck market and car market overall pre covid was a joke. I've seen motorcycle prices come down quiet a bit and thinking it's only a matter of time before the car market does the same. Who knows no crystal ball here..

I just wanted to share my tow rig in this thread. It's in the middle of being converted from a short bus to an RV.
2011 Chevy Express 4500 6.6L Duramax

Grossed out at 18,300lbs (Bus: 11340, Trailer+M3: 6960lbs) I rented the trailer but man it's a pig. Gonna use an aluminum trailer next time. She still towed great, barely broke a sweat!

I love this, I was at Buttonwillow recently and saw a heavy looking double open trailer towed by a Nissan NV3500 V8 Cargo Van. Pretty crazy how much some of the V8 vans can tow. Kinda tempting since I could convert it for camping but they cost more than my current X5 which makes a much better street car

You could always get both! I also have a 2007 X5 4.8 but there's just something about driving the bus. Feels like you own the road.

Wife says we have too many cars.... nonsense

I like "The Fast Lane" (TFL) videos. They have a youtube empire from electric to old stuff to trucks, etc. Their Ike Gauntlet towing test is the real deal. I've towed up that and it is not fun.

How'd you code out the errors so you can get smog'd?

Gearing up to tow my E92 M3 down to Watkins Glen on a Uhaul trailer with my '16 X5 35i. It's about 230 miles round trip, mostly flat but with some hilly terrain once you get out to the track area. I made the trip last year with the same setup and everything worked out fine, but there were a couple issues I have corrected.

I used an extended hitch with a manual winch on it in case I had to pull a dead car up on the trailer. The ball was probably 12" from the bumper which increased squat significantly. I've since installed a shorter hitch that has the ball about 5-6" from the bumper.

I noticed when I got home last year that one of my rear springs had a broken coil at the bottom; apparently this is common on this chassis. (Ironically I had the same issue on an old '98 E36 convertible I owned in 2018). I replaced both springs and also readjusted the air lines for my aftermarket air bags (Air Lift 1000 60909 Universal Air Suspension Kit). Between the new springs, good bags, and shorter hitch, it should help reduce squat in the rear.

Ive been towing with my 2022 Ram 1500 laramie quite a bit and its been great.. Has all the luxury features of a modern day suv and also has more space and towing capacity...

You can also lease these pretty cheap if you wanted too.

What's pretty cheap? I've never been a truck guy even though most of my family is super blue collar / redneck haha. Starting to think that a truck would be nice after moving to a larger house where the home depot runs have become too much for my Q7/X5.
