Passenger Restraint System Malfunction - insane repair estimate
I've been getting a passenger restraint system malfunction warning. This disables the passenger airbag even with someone sitting in the seat.
Took it to the dealer and they came up with this quote that involves replacing the passenger seat mat. Any thoughts? I was floored at the price estimate.

there are indy airbag system specialists who are usually mobile that can replace the occupancy sensor in the seat and reprogram, usually its around $1000 depending on the cost of the occupancy sensor itself. If you know a good auto body shop, ask them for a reference.

FWIW
lets break down the dealership price: i would say 5-6 hours of labor@ at least 200/hr to replace passenger occupancy sensor + at least 1500 for the part(i think the sensor comes with the seat leather)+ tax sounds about right. remember these cars are expensive to maintain/repair maybe you could get it done at a TRUSTED indy, save some money on labor cost.... |

It seems like they are charging you to replace the whole seat and reprogram. This just happened to my car about 2 weeks ago when I was installing my dashcams. I believe I triggered it by putting my knee pressure into the seat while tucking wires in the headliner. The sensor in the seat need to replace and cost about $157. There is a DIY on YouTube how to replace. Or you can go the cheap route and bypass the error with a simulator which will still activate the airbag if you are ever in a car accident which will run you about $45. I just ordered the simulator this morning.

I got that error when I switched out my interior with a new set (black to fox red). The previous owner said he didn't have any errors when it was in his car. While switching out the interior I also got the battery discharge fault. Drove for a few days and the restraint fault never went away. Put my old passenger seat back in and still had the error. Read that low battery can also throw that error so figured that's what caused it. Put the Fox Red seat back in, cleared the error with Carly. So far has not come back.
