Issues Removing Xpel Stealth from Frozen Paint
I recently purchased a Frozen Grey M3 where the previous owner had Xpel Stealth installed when it was new. Five years later, the film has started to peel--actually my installer said, it looks like the film started to shrink and pull probably due to extreme heat, and there was a definite difference of sheen between the actual Frozen Paint and the film.
Anyway, I decided to have it redone. It's turned into my installer's worst nightmare. He said in 15 years, he's never seen anything like this. The adhesive residue left behind was extremely difficult to remove. I'm not sure what the paint looked like after the residue was removed, but I'm guessing it probably no longer matches the uncovered body panels. Has anyone else experienced issues with longevity or removal of PPF with their Frozen car? Thanks, Sean |

I'd contact xpel directly and see what they say.

Good News! Spoke with my installer and he was able to get all of the adhesive off. It took a few hours and he used Dupont First Klean. I was relieved to hear him say the paint looked fine. I'm picking it up later today and will try to post some pics.
We spoke in some detail about it and agreed that any adhesive/PPF probably would have bonded in a similar manner due to the texture of BMW Frozen Paint combined with the intense heat--previous owner lived in the desert. Other brands films may be worse if the adhesive is more tacky or has a stronger hold. Frozen Paint also held up, so installers may want to adjust rates accordingly for the additional prep work required. Thanks Xpel, for the quick follow-up, much appreciated! |
