Big negative for BMW.

Maybe, but we're still placing orders even without pricing...
I guess I should email my dealer my options sometime soon.

Beers on me if I get a ride.

I'll bring the GT3 and maybe if we trust each other we can swap rides...

Uuhhhm.... ok, I hope your not serious because I just may have to end up coincidently being at South Bay the day it arrives...

I can see it now; a pre-dawn line-up ala the Rose Parade, Black Friday, American Idol, etc..outside the gates of SouthBay...

Considering your other options; your time, a flight & drive, or transport via truck from IL, my answer is emphatically YES!

I don't see that post from Xcellere. I assume he deleted it.

I think the price is VERY unfair. You should have it delivered to IL.

I don't understand why there's an extra cost of delivering your car to another dealership if there is a $775 nationwide destination and handling charge already factored in in the MSRP, especially if the car has not even been built.

What about just asking for straight delivery to South Bay BMW? Isn't how ED could be done?

All the purchase price goes to the selling dealer. A dealer doing a courtesy delivery will expect something.

Are we talking about two preparation and delivery charges? Maybe I'm cheap, but again... if the selling dealer is not doing the actual preparation and delivery -which said cost should be part of the selling price anyways-, why a customer has to pay that dealer for something not received?

I would expect a real (as in free) courtesy delivery, in which the selling dealer pay the receiving dealer the preparation and delivery cost. But that's me... hey, the OP is buying a car without knowing its final price. This could be a showing of a great customer service from the dealer instead of a "let's milk this sucker" move.

Mmm not that high volume. They are planning to sell 20,000 1 series only, world wide and current 1 series don't offer ED. Allocation will come out of dealer's regular allotment. Most people getting ED MSRP are getting it because of previous agreement with sales.

I think $500 is the standard advertised courtesy deliver price.

I presume you bought from the dealership in IL because they had no waitlist when you were making the purchase, rather than due to getting a discount on MSRP (which would be unheard of at this point in the game)?

One thing to be careful with is where you will have the car serviced. If you plan to have the car serviced at South Bay, make sure you trust them. I know we'd all like to think that no dealership would hold an out of state purchase against you, especially just for waitlist reasons, but there are some pretty shady BMW dealerships out there. My dealership knows I bought out of state and did ED. But I never tell them I bought out of state because I was able to beat their price by thousands. I just tell them it was because I am friends with the owner. You case is obviously much different, but still, just something to keep in mind.

Wow, that sucks. How recent is this? Last I knew ED invoice had been released and their were lots of happy campers on 1addicts.com. I hope this does not become the new trend for BMW. The ED discount sells lots of cars.

True I agree with that, but I've had my E46 M3 serviced at Beverly Hills BMW for three years now and I'm friendly with the guys there. South Bay would be a bit of a hike just to get my car serviced, where BH BMW is like 4 minutes from my house.

i also can't believe they would let the car go into production without first telling you how much it's going to cost.

i really hope they don't rape you at delivery. last thing you want is to have your delivery experience ruined by an asshole dealership that will overcharge you by a ridiculous amount.

good luck and congrats!

Well, I don't think it will be the dealership overcharging him. It would be BMWUSA.
Plus, from what I know so far, the dealership he is going through seems pretty straight-up.

does BMW NA actually dictate mark-ups? i don't think so. i've always thought it was up to the dealership to apply "market adjustments" to their inventory.

this is news to me. I didn't even notice your car went to 112 status.
So are you saying that I don't get to see your car? Not cool man.

And sorry Eric and Mark, no pricing. I'm getting pretty tired of this. I wish I had a phone number to call at BMW where someone cared about us little guys.
