CLK63/C63 Black Series would seem to fit your bill.

Just pointing out the M5 is no longer what it used to be.
Unfortunately, BMW is going soft and the competition is catching up. I hope this isn't the case with the next generation M3.

Also, the RS5 is a great car, but even with it's trick diffs, it's not as balanced as the M3. Quattro works very well in the corners, giving you confidence and letting you push that much harder, but there is still that common complaint, the car plows.

The CLS63 is a pretty sick car too. The m5 does look very drab while the Panamera is unique (love it or hate it) and has more road pressence than either the m5 or CLS63, though the CLS is close.
+1000 on the Panamera GTS performs great, sounds excellent!

There's always the M6 Grancoupe as an option but you'll have to wait a bit.

I was considering moving to an F10 M5 soon from my E90, but after driving 550 m sport and the new M6 vert I changed my mind right away. They are just way too big and don't feel anywhere near as sporty and involving.

I agree the panamera is nice (I spent 2 weeks driving through Germany/Switzerland in a S). The interior is very nice, but it is very expensive for the relatively low level of performance you get with the S and going to the turbo or even GTS is a big price jump. Although it was nice at first I quickly got bored with the PDK and was wishing for a manual. The panamera drove smaller than the F10, but still certainly didn't feel small.

Right now the front runner for me is a 991 S. It is a significantly different car from the 997. It has an excellent interior with all the features you'd ever want, feels much more roomy and comfortable than the 997 while being lighter, still has amazing performance with an NA engine and manual trans, sounds great and gets much better mpg. Not wanting to go turbo or auto trans or bigger car there really isn't much else out there that I would give up the E90 for.

If outright sportiness is what u are after, then the F10 M5 is definitely a wrong choice even though i won't say your 550 test drive was a good indicator. The F10 M5 doesn't feel heavy under most driving condition, but its size becomes apparent in tight places. I test drove the 991 C2S and din like it enough over my E92 M3. The sound and interior ergonomics was to me, not up to scratch compared to my M3. I was very disappointed with the C2S as i had high hopes for it before the drive. Having owned the current M3, it gets that much tougher to find a replacement for it. M really have their work cut out for them in the next M3.

The 550 drive was really just to checkout the overall dimensions of the car and the view from the drivers seat. The drive in the M6 though can't be that much different from the M5.

It is a hard decision to leave the E90, but after 4 years I am getting to the point where I am at least considering it. I was actually the other way, thinking that I wouldn't like the 991 that much (Ive spent time in both 997.1 and .2 and never seriously considered them), but there was quite a lot i did like and not much i didn't. Right now I'm looking at an October allocation, so I have plenty of time still to spend more time with the 991 before making a decision.

That's interesting. How do u find the sound produced by the 991 compared to our M3? The one i tried did not have the sports exhaust.

This is again one of the things that really surprised me. The car I drove did have the sport exhaust and for the first time Porsche really nailed it. It sounds great and I think is a must on the 991. It is perfectly matched with the engine note. There is even a wonderful burble on overrun and with the valves you can tone it down when you want.

The S65 makes a great unique sound, but I can honestly say I loved the 991 with PSE even more.

E90 M3 to F10 M5. Can't wait!

Anyone looking at XKR, 991 etc clearly has no need for a sedan. I need 4 doors so it's a no brainer. As far as the Panamera goes, I don't like the rear center console preventing 5 passengers. Also, as previously mentioned the styling on the Panamera is love or hate. I prefer the look of a proper saloon.

All great cars however in their own right! ð

If Porsche makes a proper 5-seater sedan without trying too hard to make it look like their 911, it would be a viable option for me. I prefer the big NA V8 in their Pana GTS. I just can't stand the hideous looks and the 4-seater arrangement. I don't need the crazy power in my M5. Sure, it's a lot of fun, but i would rather have that power in a small tight package.
