Ok i'll clear this up - from April this year you could spec 'Internet option' on your new 3 series or M3 (£95 option i believe). I specced it on my new car. You need an internet capable phone to use the function - the car displays the websites etc and you can browse using the i drive controller but the phone is what provides the actual internet connection.

This is different to the BMW 'online' and connected drive which come a s standard with all BMW specced with Prof Nav and bluetooth.

The option wasnt available until April(ish) 2011 - my 2010 M3 didnt have this option either - dont think youre missing much - just displays your phones internet on the i drive screen.

Very strange...when i click on internet feature on i drive it tells me to connect to
an internet enabled device (or words to that effect) . Just confirm that you are talking about full internet access ie facebook, amazon, emails etc etc?
Posters in these threads with the option also confirm that you must pair or tether an internet enabled device for the option to work.

You didn't spec it then?

After about three attempts by your passenger to view BMW Online while on the move, it does allow you do it, from there on after.
