I'd call whoever you sold the E92 to...and get it back next. Or a new one while you can.

I think the e89 Z4 is one of the best looking cars BMW makes, particularly the sdrive35is. It's also faster in a straight-line than the e93 M3. Production run of the sdrive35is is limited so it's still something of a rare bird and you don't have to worry about a e89 M that would upstage it as it's the Z4's M-equivalent since BMW is not M-ing the z4 any time soon.

The sample below is here in San Diego which is driving distance for you, practically new and has almost every available option including M package and 19s. If you don't buy it, I might . It's a little higher than the other options you were exploring but I think they could be talked down into the 50s as I know it's been sitting on their lot awhile.

My wife (and kids) love the vert: It's our first, and it's fun.

Basically the appeal nets out to:
  1. Me: Vert, and fast
  2. Wife: Vert (and she looks good in it )
  3. Kids: Similarity to roller coaster ride

There have been multiple comments in various threads that the E93 is slower, doesn't handle as well etc. due to additional weight, and this is likely true. It's also likely true that in 99% of driving, you won't be able to tell the difference. I drove both, and without access to a track or winding canyon road, felt no gap.

Cheers

Agreed, I drove one east of Chicago ... all the way to LA then up the coast and back again ... a barrel of fun to be sure

Drawbacks are ... no trunk space, RFT and watch your tire wear with the roof in the trunk, if you drive long distances with the roof in the trunk add some more air pressure to the rear wheels. I traded my Z had some wheel issues I could not live with, this or my longing back to the M3 was too great, otherwise an excellent car.

911 997 all the way. once the new model comes out, prices will plummet and you'll be able to get a nice 997 vert for a steal

I went with a '12 GT-R and love it! Stupid fast, handles great and a ton of fun. Just what the M3 should have been and this is coming from a guy who has owned every version except the E30.

BC

PS - I owned an E93 (and an E90 and an E92) and while it's a nice car - I didn't like it as much as the e90/92. The extra weight and relative lack of rigidity took most of the fun out of the car.

No kidding. It cracks me up when fixed-roof owners try to convince convertible owners that they're missing out, when it's really the other way around.

Both have their benefits, and their cons.

I wouldn't take a convertible to a track myself.
