Recommended Race Pads for st60/st40 bbk

Hey guys, I've been running the stoptech race race pads on my st60/40 f&r for the last 3 years. The price was very reasonable but I feel like they def lack the initial biting power. Any good recommendations on pads that's an upgrade from the stoptech race pads? I think i can still continue to use the stoptech pads in the rear on the st40 but looking to change pads in the front.

I've been happy with GLOC R10s or R12s depending.

Cobalt Friction. The compounds will be determined by the tire, modifications and your driving ability.

Hawk DTC-70 up front, 60 in the rear, assuming you're running a racey tire.

Cheap, fairly linear response, readily available. You can run 60/60 if you're on a 200TW, I'd say.

Another vote for Cobalts. Tried several compounds and I like XR2 front and XR3 rear

Thanks for the input guys! Sounds like a lot of cobalt friction guys. I have a few buddies who are running ferodo pads but they're so expensive. I'm running nt01s btw.

Hawk dtc 70 user. As good on the track as the ds.uno I used before, but streetable for noise, which the Uno were not.

I run the ferodo 1.11 and will be trying out the 3.12's soon. I love them more than the pfc08's I used to run.

I've been happy with my 60 setup

Been reading up on pads and there are some experiences that scare you away from ferrous based pads (Hawk) because apparently the dust can embed into wheels or body paint and is difficult to remove. This in comparison to non-ferrous based pads such as Cobalt which from what I have read do not the the tendency to embed into paint and much easier to clean. How much truth is there to this in practicality if reasonable care is taken to clean the car after a track day asap??

I happened to find a set of Hawk dtc60 pads for $120 (fronts for Brembo GT) that I havent used, a comparable cobalt pad is gonna run ~$500 for the front. I'd be willing to pay for not having difficult brake dust caked on the wheels and body.

Additionally, the ferrous pads eat rotors quicker than non-ferrous from what I've read. At $500 for cobalt, I'm halfway to new rings so they better be A LOT less aggressive on rotors for the same stopping power & life in order to make sense.

Most track pads will do that. Just clean the wheels and use a product like Iron-X to remove any embedded dust particles in the paint.

Thread Jack:
I recently installed a front 380mm ST Trophy kit.
I don't have enough experience to know if rear pads (OEM calipers) are super critical or not for track days.

I have a track day at Thunderhill in a couple of weeks so I'll install and bed the SR34s that I have on hand, but I was curious if anyone has any knowledge to drop about rear pads that work decently with SR34s?

(I do have 3 choices for rear pads on hand, OEM, Hawk Street Performance pads and some OEM replacement Pagid pads, but it's not too late to get something more appropriate.)

I would not run a street pad out back, or a "street performance" one. Get a mild race pad. While the rear brakes are doing much less work than the fronts, they are also smaller and have less cooling so they tend to stay hot.

More importantly, a big difference in friction front-to-rear will make the car very unstable and unpredictable -- you are effectively changing the brake bias of the car.

Give Dave Zeckhausen a call and ask what he recommends. He sells StopTech stuff and can help you match it up accordingly. I bet he will just tell you to get a DTC-30 or 60 out back.

Thank you!
David was really helpful.

He asked some good questions before making a recommendation.

Experience, run group? (Intermediate)
What tires? (Michelin PS4s)
Brakes? (Fr: ST60 Rr: OEM)
Top speed on track? (138)
Biggest speed drop (125 down to 50)

He said the rear Hawk "Street Race" pads that I have on hand are the same recipe as the DTC-30, which he said would be fine with SR33 or SR32.
He didn't think the SR34, that I have on hand, would play nicely with a summer tire though, but that rear DTC-60s would be an ok match for the SR34s.
He ultimately recommended DCT-60 all the way around for my situation.
So I'll try those out next week.

Glad to hear he was able to help. I agree that those race pads are risky on a PS4S, you will lose a lot of modulation and get into the ABS too much.
