I never was able to spot anything under the microscope, so I broke down and sent the unit in for repair.
Sent it to Short Circuit Repair in San Jose, CA.
They were able to diagnose a fault and repair it.
They added a Bluetooth AUX so I can stream audio from my phone.

$1200 ugh.
