Dinan X Pipe exact specs

Hi all,

I have the Dinan X pipe with 4 resonators and no Cats.

Someone cut IN some crappy cats. (is there a way to tell when I cut them out what they are?) And cut back in the 4 resonators.

I would like to restore this to its original glory. I am going to cut and weld it back in the 4 resonators and remove those two Cats.

Here are my real questions.

Does anyone have the exact specs on this X pipe? I bought some new 2.750 piping to get it right. Just basically exact lengths from one weld to another? I dont want to complete the job and realize that I need an extra 4 inches of length. (dont we all haha)

Whoever welded this did a real crap job because it is not exact the same length on both sides coming from the headers. The driver side exhaust is a good 4 inches more forward than the passenger. The pipes are not equal lengths coming down from the engine. Then they welded in different length 2.5 inch pipe.

Lastly, has anyone ever modified an x pipe to move the X further forward?I was thinking of when I do all the cutting I could move the X a bit forward as I heard that is the best place for it to be exhaust pressure wise. The tricky part is the exhaust hangers no longer being in the correct place on this one

TLDR: I have a dinan x pipe that was poorly modified and I would like to restore it and maybe move the X forward. How much trouble do you all think this will be?

Thank you all. I will post pictures as they are worth a thousand words and I am not the best at grammar etc.

I have a Dinan x pipe and can get some measurements for you if it could be helpful.

Just find a picture of the x pipe and circle what you need measured and I'll try my best to get you some specs if I'm in town.

Good luck with the project - the full Dinan setup is a rare gem.

Restore a Dinan x- pipe to its original glory and change the position of the x doesn't suit together. Restore the complete Dinan x-pipe or/and building your own with a forwarded x.
I already built a x-pipe by myself and forwarded the X. It took far more time as expected but it was no simple solution to get everything working with cats and resonators and then still have the exhaust hanger on the right place.

I hope you see how much this one was altered.

Honestly the moving the X forward was a hope and not a need. I can do this the simpler route by just "restoring" it.

As you can see it has been tampered with extensively. What my concern is (besides making the whole thing equal length) is that the significant cutting and replacing I will do (along with a previous owner) will make the X pipe like an inch or two short to the muffler section! haha.

Maybe I will just leave the X in place for now if that makes the most sense and to not make this an even bigger messier project.

In term of specs, generally I just need how far the distance is between welds, since this is so hacked up everything seems wonky and uneven!

Right now it feels like trash. It is no wonder the person I bought this from changed over to the Bimmerworld X pipe.

Jeez seeing those pictures hurts so much... Why did the previous owner think its a good idea anyways....just do that to a stock xpipe? And putting cats where the factory primary cats were? smfh

Not only that, But they welded in 2.5 inch piping when the Dinan is 2.75.

They rechoked the whole system!

I have some proper 2.75 exhaust piping coming it.

I need to grind the X pipe where I end up cutting for smooth welds.

My only concern is that if I am grinding or cutting even 1/8-1/4 at a time that it could make the entire system 2 inches shorter at the end.

Does the exhaust have any real wiggle room for fitment or does it have to be 81 inches long?

When I return it to "stock" form, I will really want all those pipes equal length coming off the headers.

I've never experimented it, but i think 2 inches shorter would be quite significant, even an inch is quite a lot, imagine you gotta pull the axle-back forward an inch and the red rubber grommets would be slanted forward and tailpipes would be sucked in and under the bumper.... Just a thought.

Cutting and welding that x pipe off the car is going to be a disaster. It needs to be installed and fixed by a professional.

the feeling you have towards the person that butchered that xpipe is the same feeling i have wondering why you would want to mess with it further... its fubar.

Alrighty,

yall convinced me, I will take it to a pro shop and have it stored to its original condition (hopefully). Wondering about moving the X location is just because I am a tinkerer but sometimes my mind goes wild. I will update the thread if a shop will be able to restore it.

Spoke to Trevor at Woodward Motorsport.

I really appreciate that he just gave it to me straight and let me know this had been hacked up so much that just purchasing a new one would be a far better option.

If it is possible when we look at it, I may even be able to add in a pair of resonators to the new x pipe when it arrives.

Just wanted to say thanks to Trevor at Woodward Motorsports for answering all my questions super fast.

No they aren't. They're both x pipes with quad resonators and no cats, but they're not the same.

If serious, I do apologize then. I have a son with actual OCD and know it is more than a laughable joke.

Regardless, this thread has run its course!
