Battery wires loose in blue clamp?

Hi,

Was swapping out my original e90 battery and as I was disconnecting a the receptacles from the distributor, I noticed the red and black wire inside of this blue clamp were loose. I.e. they can slide back an inch till I can see the red and black.

I pushed them back in but wondering what these are for and if there is an anything I need to do here to make sure it’s good to go? As long as their leads are both in the blue clamp in any orientation all is good?

Thanks

It's for the airbag. If you aren't getting an airbag light don't sweat it too much.

Thanks roastbeef. Upon further investigation it seems that it is a B+ connector for the IBS (intelligent battery system) see part #2 in the generic picture below.

Its fine, it'll be slightly loose as it's clipped onto a fusible link for the IBS.

It will trigger off an airbag warning if disconnected, which can be a a bit confusing if you haven't seen it before.

Not to hijack thread but I'm having a similar issue where my car won't start out of the blue (tried to jump start and even replaced battery…). I noticed that the #3 cable was not connected when I checked battery to replace and thought that may have been on purpose so did not reconnect.

I'm getting code 278D BSD Interface. Could this be causing my car to not start?

Unfortunately unplugging the blue cable didn't help me start the car. It did through more codes though until I plugged it back in.

Still getting 278D BSD Interface

Cable 3 was actually connected, looks like one of the prior owners probably had a sub or amp in the trunk and was getting power through another cable.
