rod noise on youtube video...Good or bad?

he posts this video saying this sounds normal. He changed to new bearings and it sounds just like this...
I stumbled across this.... To me this does not sound normal. Advice all? As this sounds like I would expect bearing problems to sound like.

Not my video -- full disclaimer.

Can't say i hear any bearing knock. The slight clack in the background doesn't sound like what we've heard when it has turned out to be rod knock.

Agree with Helmsman I am no expert but in my experience lower engine knock is a much deeper tone. This sounds more like an upper engine noise to me.

call my crazy, but if rod bearings are making noise you can hear from inside the car like that, the motor is toast.

Doesn't sound like bottom end at all. The "click click" sound seems pretty common and is usually chalked up to noisy lifters, though I don't know whether that's been confirmed as the only cause of clicky S65.

That’s ignition related.

If your alternator or battery is on its way it. It will also cause the idle clicking from plugs/ coils to be even more pronounced.

I'm going to agree here. The very rhythmic "tick...tick...tick...tick" valve lifters probably.... is a normal sound of these engines. I was referring to the deeper almost random "clack....clack,clack........clack,clack" that is heard during the first idle and again at the 1000-1500rpm range. That to me is not normal. It was very easy to hear and I'm not sure why others didn't pick up on it like you did. Perhaps it's speaker related to the way they are watching it?

There is a deeper noise present than a tick. I have no idea what the cause is but it is well beyond that common tick. Something does sound unattractive about that idle.

It seems like there is a more prominent and concerning noise beyond the usual ticking sound. Identifying the source can be challenging, but the idle does indeed seem unattractive due to this unusual noise.

these engines are inherently noisy beasts, if you had a rod knock you would know. that noise in the video is from a vanos actuator.
