TTony A hairline crack was found on one side when I removed the exhaust in favor of my IPE. Supplemental putty was used on that side as a preventative measure; the acoustics should be preserved.

Is welding not required since you used the putty?

Correct - I used the putty as it would not damage the iconel, as welding often does. I believe it also is more resistant to thermal expansion.
