Does anyone have the ACM mod around the Philly area? Would like to hear it in person if possible. If the drone is too much, I'll probably just stick with the 2 perforated pipe method.

Let's just clear a few things up. We know there are 2 diff methods to the OEM mod.
#1 replace the perforated part with solid pipe
#2 just a straight pipe through the muffler (muffler just for show)

Which one is the ACM mod? Also, how much is #2 louder than #1? I don't think I'll get a TP anytime soon and I hear the megan isn't a direct fit on an e93. I just gotta figure out which OEM mod to get.

Acm is straight pipe method and is a lot louder than perforated method

I had Megan both with and w/o TP's and can honestly say it depends. If the only mod is a rear section go ACM mod but if you will do TP's or catless x-pipe for more power Megan is the way to go because it sounds great.

I have had both...currently have the Megan cat-back...zero issues with install. Clean welds and light !!!! Nothing compares in fit and finish for price. I wouldn't be surprised if the more costly cat-backs are coming out of the same factory...Also, have the Macht Schnell cat-less xpipe. IMO, its the best sounding combo. best of luck in your decisions. I've added a short vid of my car after install of cat-less xpipe with Megan cat-back...note, car was still in the cold start cycle

cheers mate

Previously I had a e92 335i with the BMW PE and it sounded amazing and had the perfect balance between having the stock sound when cruising and aggressive but not overly loud when on the throttle. I wanted to go MPE but the price is very discouraging and I need a quick affordable fix.

Seems like my 2 options are either the stock exhaust mod (quoted $400 from a shop) vs Megan exhaust. At first I was shocked to see people putting Megan product on their M's but after listening to it on youtube I have to admit for the money it sounds great (and looks good too). The stock exhaust mod also sounds like a MPE with the bass turned up a bit more but I can't grasp how loud these systems sound inside the cabin. I am mainly concerned about drone and am curious which system has a louder drone. If anyone had both systems or heard both I would greatly appreciate your opinion.

Stock mod
Pros: cheap, retains stock look, sounds good.
Cons: drone? can't reverse

Megan
Pros: Can revert back to stock if not happy, lighter and looks better, possibly sound better?
Cons: also drone? Almost twice as expensive as stock mod

+1. I'd say Megan looks a bit better than stock as well and is a bit lighter.

I'm running Megan w tps

I wanted to revive this old thread because I'm in the same boat as the OP.

Looking for a little more sound. Not looking for performance gains. I doubt I'll ever modify this car for performance.

I like Megan because it seems fairly tame, I can slap it on for about $600-$700, and if I don't like it, I can take it off and sell it.

With the OEM mod, there's no going back unless you buy another OEM exhaust or reverse the modification (more money spent).

I can't justify spending $1000+ on exhaust just for sound.

Looking to see if there are any new opinions or feedback. Thanks.

I have the megan as I plan on doing TPs soon. The megan sounds perfect for the money- deep, loud tone. The downshifts are music.

I am also in NOVA if you wanted to hear it.

Megan exhaust sounds awesome. Totally worth the money and is better than OEM mod IMO.

Can't say which is better but the mod shouldn't cost more than $400 with the install. If you don't like it you can pick up a used muffler for $150ish? and sell the modded set up for $250ish? But you will like it. No matter what you do you can't go wrong. You do need to do something as the stock exhaust is a bit lacking. Good luck.

Oem perf mod sounded like a NASCAR, Megan sounds like an exhaust. Both are loud as shit with xpipe. Megan sounded almost perfect with tp though

Sorry for reviving an old thread, I'm considering these 2 options as well and I'm not ruling out TP in the future if I do want to be louder. My question is, if I do TP, do I need to tune the car to get rid of the CEL?
I'm not looking for performance at all like another member mentioned, I'm just for the sound, so I don't want to spend more money in tuners just for the CEL, is there any other options other than TP that can make the car louder without getting the CEL?

My plan was to get the MPE exhaust but I can't see myself spending that kind of money either, so my options is the oem mod route ir megan.

Thanks in advance.

Just get a rear exhaust if all you want is a more powerful sound. I have the Megan with a quad resonated x pipe and it’s a little too loud around town. Sometimes I have to put the stock midpipe back on and the sound is tamer but still louder than stock. Try an aftermarket exhaust first.

Thanks man, that is my plan but was reading that if I go with megan, sound would be better with TP but if I go with the oem mod it doesn't really sound great with TP. So my plan is to do the exhaust first and go from there. My problem is that I have never heard any exhaust in person and I don't want it to be too loud, I want it to be louder than stock from start up, idling and acceleration of course. I have read that some of them will get louder when you get on it, in my case I want a bit louder thank stick but all the time.

If you are in NH you can come listen to mine. Best thing is to listen to a few rears or combinations of test pipes and rears. It is hard to undo too loud other than selling what you just bought.

You will most likely be very happy w/ either option. I've rarely heard an exhaust setup with this car that doesn't sound good.

OEM is very lacking/tame, whatever you do I'll bet you'll say to yourself you should have done it sooner

I have the ACM mod and it sounds awesome, as I am sure the Megan does too.

I'm running TP with OEM 2.5 mod, thinking about a Valvtronic or Megan. I don't mind the tone or volume of the TP/OEM mod setup, it's just a bit too "On" all the time.

Has anyone gone from TP/OEM Mod to TP/Megan and regretted it?

Changing to a Megan won’t quiet the exhaust compared to oem modified. Likely louder.
