Jerez Black the hardest paint to keep clean?
I've always owned black cars but Jerez Black seems to top everything for the hardest to keep clean. Damn does this color show everything on it. One reason is it seems to hold water spots real easily, after it rains the entire car is covered in very visible water spots. It's also is a finger print magnet all around the door handles or where anyone else touches it. Whenever I'm driving someone else they must finger the whole door because it's covered in prints afterwards Whenever the sun hits the paint all of these imperfections are highlighted like crazy, it's not as bad at night though.
Anyone else agree? I wonder if Jet Black is easier to manage |

Yes, it's a high maintenance color. Stunning when clean, very rewarding. It looks awesome wet too. I loved watching mine today with all those beads of water covering it. Thank God I enjoy washing/detailing. Black needs it often.

Yes, it's impossible.
I threw in the white towel a long time ago.

Yes its possible :)
I think this my sound rude, so this is to clarify thats its not, and is meant to just show that it is possible to take care of JerezBlk so long as you educate yourself on how to care for paint to begin with... Sure it's a bitch, but my paint is so beautiful with just a little TLC and understanding on what she needs..
Mind you, I do live in Las Vegas... its dusty and gusty around here!! to the OP, when you mention water spots, sounds like just a little TLC and wax should fix that.. Look, no water spots here and the Vegas water is Hard enough as it is.. Theres a detailing section here on the forums, I've learned a lot from here and google. I am far from pro but I have learned to care for my car... and DIY all my work I used simply use Adam's Polish products and Collinite 845 for my waxing needs.. 2 bucket wash method Foam gun Harbor Freight DA Uber green, blue, black pads and still finishing off my meguiars interior products... iPhone pic And a night time pic Good luck with your paint care..

I have Jet Black I think it might be worse! In the spring when there's a lot of pollen it shows up. Finger prints show up all over my door and handles, even though I try to touch the handle only.
I got it detailed and applied OptiCoat, helps keep it clean. Highly recommend. |

Jet black is definitely worse. Depending on if you have a garage or not and how much you drive the car it's not that bad, but I feel your pain. The dust just kills it

WOW @Xcelrrate Well done, well done. To the OP, metallic is supposed to hide imperfections better than non-metallic paints but Jerez is still a high maintenance color (esp. compared to grey or white) nonetheless.

Jet black daily driver and parked outside. It is always dirty looking I wash every two weeks and wax once a month, but between the rain, flowers, sprinklers ( I actually park two doors down twice a wewk to avoid well water from my own sprinklers, she gets dirty as soon as I get in the road.
So next car...Alpine Weiss???

Of course it matters where the car spends the night; garaged or outdoors, but
I agree with Xcelrrate. Jerez Black Metallic or Jet Black are attention demanding paints, but well worth it IMO.

Jerez is without a doubt a very hard paint to maintain. Like on the posters said, maintenance for the paint is critical, but at the end of the day it's a car and its bound to happen no matter how much you try and control it.
I do all my detailing myself to my cars. It is incredibly time consuming if you are going into the paint correction. Unfortunately, I live in MA and there is no Detailers around me that I trust or actually do paint correction. Just cave in and realize that this color black (I also have a black sapphire X5M) or any black is going to show and BMW clear coats and the paint for some reason just scratches very easily. Here are a few pics of my two cars and how they look. The X5M I bought pre owned. You will see how bad the paint was and also from the dealer's "detail shop"...give me a break on that they are not Detailers. |

The darker the color, the harder the maintenance. It doesn't get dirty any faster, it just shows dirt more easily, and shows off detailing imperfections much sooner. Along the same lines, any non-metallic paint will show swirls much sooner than a metallic. So swirled up the same, the jet black car will look much worse than the jerez black car.

Mine is Jet Black and it's a huge pain in the ass to keep clean. However, when clean, nothing looks better in my opinion!

I had Carbon Black before on my e46 m3. Jerez is basically the replacement...and yes it is by far the worst color to care for. Worse than Jet Black imo.
You need to learn how to use a polisher with this color. When its really clean absent of swirls it looks great, but man its a PITA to keep clean. Big reason I went with white this time. (grey would be even better for minimal maintenance.) |

Proper maintenance is key... You can only compound your paint so any times safely before compromising the clear coat. I've seen new M3s with very thin paint readings so be cautious if you are attempting your own paint corrections.

At what point do you have a professional step in compared to polishing and waxing it yourself? My car needs some attention, but it seems on the borderline where I could restore the finish myself. I've done a lot of research into polishing/restoring the finish, but I've never actually tried it. I whole-heartedly trust Meguiar's products, and I was looking at their polishes. Could I, as a beginner in the world of polishing, manage on my own?
