Comfort Access - yet another handle to replace

My E92 has Comfort Access (i.e. keyless) and I am now waiting for a new driver’s door handle to come from Germany (5+ weeks now).

My question is this - what actually goes wrong with these handles?

This will be the 3rd time a handle has been replaced, and it is getting rather boring now. Every couple of years a new one.

Is there any way of slowing this degradation down, or even preventing it?

The warranty covers it, but there is an excess of £100 each time.

Its usually the wiring on the inside that gets damaged

What happened to yours? Was it getting hot? I had mine replaced thru the cpo warranty right before it expired because it was getting hot and not working properly. Hopefully it doesn’t happen again but it makes me a little worried that yours is failing every few years.

Can you tell us how many years you have owned the car since you said this is your 3rd handle.

I've had my m3 for almost 5 years now and I replaced it once

Had mine for 14years, Comfort Access still works perfectly and never had to replace any handles.

I'm unfortunately having this issue with my driver side handle right now. My car is Frozen Blue too, so I'm thinking this is going to be a headache to fix with having to paint the handle and all. Ugh.

Owned 2011 M3. 5.5 years, 2 years ago at various times, the Comfort Access left and right door handles no longer work. The paint is metallic grey (A52). Second-hand bought on ebay, easy to replace, plug and play. Still works perfectly.

No problem with getting hot - it has just stopped working on the lock/unlock function.

I have had the car since new (2011).

I am wondering whether there might be an environment issue here, as I am in wet/soggy UK.

This is definitely at least the 3rd new handle (if it ever arrives from Germany - been a good 6 weeks now) or maybe even the 4th.

I will check with the stealer who has done all of the previous replacements.
