I let the smoke out of our EDC button!
It's my wife's E93 and I've recommended she changes modes occasionally so they don't get stuck. Last time I drove it I noticed it would switch from Normal to Sport, but not to comfort. I was driving it today and decided to try again, I switched from normal (default setting) to sport. I can't say I felt any difference but it did have 2 lights on. After a few minutes I pressed the button again but it stayed with 2 lights on. I waited a few seconds and pressed it again and "poof" I let the smoke out! So now we have no lights on the EDC button, but I'm not getting any EDC error messages. I haven't had time yet to check the fuse list, but I'd expect most all electric devices to be on a fuse somewhere along the line. Feel free to reply with a link to the appropriate thread and a "try the search feature"

I know this is a Jaguar OEM product, but perhaps you can substitute if for BMW smoke? I think they just might be interchangable. It is worth a shot.

🤣. Perfect! 😎 when I met my future wife (40 years ago) she was driving an MGB. When she asked my opinion of it I said I could afford to buy one, but I couldn’t afford to keep it running…, could I substitute another 3 letter acronym here?

I decided to check the shocks for shorts before investing $200 in a new switch. The fronts were easy to unplug the harness and check resistance with a meter. The back shocks were another story and required the removal of most of the trunk lining. Imagine my disappointment when I got to them and realized there was no connector in the harnesses to disconnect. Further research led to the fact that the EDC control module for the E93 is behind the rear seat back (not in the trunk) and requires removal of most of the rear interior to access. I decided to scan the EDC Module with my Maxwell NT530. I didn’t get any faults, so I ordered a new switch from FCPEuro. I’ve watched a number of videos for replacing the switch, but none had the button for DCT sport mode behind the shifter like ours, making the EDC button harness inaccessible from the shifter boot. Fortunately the console trim is only held down with 8-9 clips, so I was able to lift the trim piece to access the connector. It turns out the original switch had its harness pinched in a way that shorted the conductors. I replaced the switch, tucked the connector in a safe place and we have working EDC again. I had to pat myself on the back for successfully putting the smoke back. The trunk lining is another story, as I have several other projects to complete before taking time to put that back together. I do plan to modify the inner fender covers, so that I can access the rear shocks later without taking everything out!
