if the tank gets hot, it never cools down unless you put ice. the plastics never get anywhere near as hot.

I would recommend the standard 5 gallon tank for capacity and ease of access if racing is your thing and to place it in the rear passenger side near where the battery sits and get a lighter battery (i.e. Z4M) to offset the weight. But it's not stealth and it intrudes on trunk space.

But this concept is fantastic and one that I would do again if I needed my full trunk. Issue is getting a large enough capacity as the larger the capacity, the more efficient the system will be and the cooler the water temps will be for longer.

Patron has the metal tank, as well. Which is why he recommended a tank made of something else besides aluminum.

A gallon of water weighs in @ ~8.35 lbs, so that's almost 42lbs of add'l weight. How much does the Z4M battery weigh? Last month I switched to the Mini battery and saved ~20lbs.

I thought about the passenger's side briefly, but I have a MusicarNW sub box over the battery, which negates that. The design I'm working on will have easy access and a vented lid so no vent-hole will be needed . My hope is that the plastic won't retain and then transfer anywhere near the amount of heat the aluminum does, so that it will match the efficiency of the 5 gal metal tank.

Do you use dry ice? Combining dry ice and water creates a large amount of smoke/fog.

It doesn't melt like ice. I have seen Porsche guys stuff dry ice down the side intake vents on top of their intercoolers before drag racing. Keeps the intercoolers cold and lasts a long time.

But this is way different than putting dry ice in water.

The place that I sourced mine from (Powerhaus Performance) is no longer in business.

MRF Engineering installed mine and they could probably source all the parts and more importantly, do the install.

If I were to do this over again (now that I have another e92 M3) I would get a used non-intercooled ESS kit on the cheap, and run a water/methanol set up to spray around 2psi and run a 8psi pulley. Bet it makes consistent 580 rwhp on a dynojet.

How would you set up the meth kit to achieve this? 8 small nozzles tapped directly into the manifold?

Also, why this vs. the trunk tank system?

I believe he would just run 2 big water/meth nozzles in the intake tube before it hit the plenum. Individual cylinder injection gets expensive, cheap and easier is what I described.

Check if any of these would work.

Correct. Run the meth after the charger and prior to the manifold. Water meth with the intercooled kits dont work well because of the heat exchanger in the manifold. The non-intercooled manifold would allow an unimpeded flow of cold atomized water meth directly into the motor.

I'm interested in this train of thought as the guy from the new thread showed that big injectors, E85, and small pulley on a typical vortec supercharger kit can yield some great results with custom tuning. He got over 650WHP.

I wonder how meth and E85 play together?

Interesting. I wonder if the upgraded VF intercooler does a better job of keeping the water in the system cool, or if the capacity of the system is just too low and the water spends too much time heating up in the engine bay. I don’t think they’ve ever posted up any hard data on it

Coming from prior platforms, I would say they have a very good synergistic effect. That being said you probably don’t need both, if you have access to E85 and can hit 670whp and commensurate torque that’s probably already pushing the limits of what the rods on this engine can handle.
