How's my engine sound? I heard a ticking earlier today in the parking garage ( I hate driving in parking garages with the windows down, every sound is amplified and some sounds are distorted- acoustic nightmare). Went outside and put the phone under the car. Rev'd to 4K rpm with some idle sounds. I think it sounds fine, but what do I know, I've only owned the car for 15 months.

2008 E92 107,xxx miles original bearings.

Take a listen.

Sounds pretty normal - ticking is usually/probably just vanos doing it's thing and maybe a bit more pronounced with it having highish mileage.

You hear the typical ticking sewing machine noise , which is normal for our 65/85 engines .
Don't be worried . Enjoy your car

Sounds normal, don't stress too much about ticking noises. If you plan on keeping the car for awhile you should consider doing the rod bearings for peace of mind, it'll help when you sell the car as well.

I switched to Liquid Molly 10w60 and the ticking is much more subtle... Just something to take into consideration, different oils will cause different noises... Just my experience, hope this helps.
