Taxes on 2012 E92 M3

Hi Folks,

Is the sales tax calculated on the amount inclusive of MACO, Gas Guzzler and Destination charge, or exclusive?

Also, how do I calculate the registration and sales tax for Santa Clara county, CA?

Thanks!

Google it. There is a calculator on the DMV site. It will tell you exactly how much it will be.

@Houman: The DMV site does not answer the 1st part of the question.

If you're asking whether or not you're going to pay tax on tax (paying tax on Gaz Guzzler), the answer is complicated. You could try and argue it with dealer and there have been some folks on this forum and on the fest forum who said they didn't have to, but I have no way of verifying their purchase.

Everyone that I know paid sales tax on all of the above Dest, Maco, Gas Guzzler. Since all of those items were included in the final price. Here is a thread where they talked about it some more and you could probably find more info, but unfortunately there does not seem to be a definitive answer.

For me it comes down to this, I'm busy and the car I ordered (ED) is almost 70k (pre-tax). I could try and grind my dealer down as much as possible but then I would be wasting the precious little time I have trying to save a few hundred dollars instead of trying to make money and enjoying life. I also rather save that energy and grind them down if and when they fuck something up. I'm all for saving a buck and being informed but I'm also for keeping my sanity

If you did European Delivery, you wouldn't pay Maco. There are dealers here who sell cars for ED Invoice (approx 14% below US MSRP) or a little above. Ryan Amico charges about $600 over and there is a David Aviles who charges Euro Invoice. I went with Ryan Amico because he's about 50 miles away from me and from my home state.

Good Luck, let us know how it goes.

If you like you can shoot Ryan an email and he can break everything down for you to the penny as well as answer any question you may have regarding taxes, fees etc..

+1

Ryan has answered every email I've sent him promptly and with courtesy. I'm averaging about 2-3 a week now. It also turns out that a good friend of mine, Moe from TheShop (Custom Car shop on the westside) does work for them and has nothing but great things to say about Ryan and Steve Thomas BMW.

It's always nice when someone you know and trust has good things to say about someone you're doing business with.

Sales tax in most states are calculated after all dealer fees, destination fees, and GG "tax", basically the bottom line.

I was in the same situation, I negoitated my car to $X, the dealer in order to balance their books, wrote up the itemized receipt as $base-cost+$fees=$X. I took the itemized receipt to my state title office to register the car, and they told me they tax it on the bottom line, $X.

Thanks Everyone for answering the question. So, looks like we are double taxed after all! I will send an email to Ryan asking him about the breakdown ...

Garage List
If its in the window sticker, you're getting taxed. Therefor, the gas guzzler and destination charge will be taxed. Maco or advertising fee is also built in the MSRP of the car, but not itemized on the sticker.
