Easy/cheap way to iphone screen mirror or carplay?

Hey guys i have an 09 with nav and have literally never used it. I just use google maps on my iphone. Im wondering if theres an easy way to get google maps from my phone displaying on the screen? Thanks.

Has anyone tried this? Looks like it does mirroring. Car play that works with the controller would be a cool added feature too.

There seem a few options with next to no reviews.

Unitec Chinese one

Turkish? bmwnavigasyon

Navtool (australian?)

My observations:
-There appears to be a separate USB adapter required for plugging in the iPhone (no biggie). It is unclear if it provides 1A+ charging power or not. I would hope it does as GPS/Carplay consumes a lot of battery.
-Unitec one runs Android and has a hold key to switch out the interface.
-Unclear if steering wheel controls work but it looks like the idrive controller works for all 3.

No real reviews from anyone in the states. (My google-fu is weak). Someone needs to suck it up for the rest of us and test them.

My current solution is a magentic mount on the center vents and my iPhone plugged into the DC outlet.

Same here. I have a shop where a guys e46 got something like this installed with a backup cam. I’ll ask which it is. These cars are almost 10 years old! We havent had someone take the plunge yet?

Looks like NavTool is made in the USA and might be the one to try.
It doesn't replace the Head Unit, it just switches the video feed. So you have all OEM functionality and oem controller will control CarPlay so it seems like a pretty decent solution over an AVIN hu which seems like it would have more quirks.

Once iOS 12.0 comes out, CarPlay should get a lot better as more apps such as Waze and Google Maps will be allowed.

I think this is the best solution without losing OE functionality. Even when iOS 12 is out, we still have to wait for Waze/Google to come out with updated apps to utilize the new Carplay framework. I hope it doesn't take too long!

I might give it a go next year but right now I have other items to address on the car.

Read the reviews on the NavTool website. They look phony to me. There are too many grammatical errors to come from native English speakers. Also, most tout the fact that the product is made in the USA, which strikes me as odd. Finally, check out the BBB rating. I’m looking for a CarPlay solution, too, and I’m disappointed that NavTool isn’t it.

English is definitely not their first language. Hopefully someone makes a proper solution with good marketing. I'm sure plenty of folks will be willing to add ACP or AA to their car.

Bummer though. They could've been the solution.

This one member says they ordered it.

When I hunted posted by him, I noticed ALL 23 posts is about navtool. Makes me suspicious if it is a real member or not.

I've been researching this myself and this is the most promising solution I've found:
https://avinusa.com/8-8-bmw-3-series...on-system.html

Here's a thread on e90post talking about it:
https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1424151

Sounds like the Android 7.7 version was just released a few weeks ago.

Some were reporting that sound quality is poor.
Also it's hacked android, probably a glitchy experience

Yeah, I'm waiting to see more reviews on the newer version. Hopefully they have addressed the issues people have mentioned in the past.

I just ordered the 7.1 version from Avinusa last night. I'll let everyone know about my experience as it goes.
