Yeah I can't see why we can't all get along lol. This rod bearing thing is like Android vs iOS.

Why can't we all just get along and hope both BE and the "NEW" VAC are good solutions (which is what I believe) to our S65 problems.

Only time will tell. All I can recommend is that people run Molyslip if they can get their hands on it. I believe it's on Amazon.com if you're in the US.

This is a great example of how well it protects (from another forum member)

All the work was done by my friend Jon, he installed pretty much everything. CSF Oil Cooler, Subframe Mounts, Diff Mounts, Supercharger, Bearings and more.

If you find someone who can do this on the side. It will cost you less thank 2k CAD including taxes, parts.

What worked for me was to have my S65 engine oil tested at Blackstone Laboratories in Fort Wayne, IN, USA. I received a free container and instructions in the mail within days of requesting a free test kit on their website. http://www.blackstone-labs.com/free-test-kits.php

To be clear, I have no affiliation whatsoever with Blackstone Labs.

Living in the GTA and finding a shop that can offer some insight into the problem of Rod Bearings for my M3 has been difficult. Having my engine oil tested at regular oil/filter service intervals to discern the presence of metals and contaminates in my engine is invaluable. That information helps to provide an overview of the health of my engine. If you let them know what you are looking for... they can help. The report I received back in a PDF format via email was helpful, as was the telephone conversation I had with one of their technicians.

Considering how serious the Rod Bearing problem is for these cars, I plan on submitting regular oil samples for testing to monitor the health of my engine for the next year or so. My odometer reads 149000klms. At $38USD it is a very small price to pay for peace-of-mind.

Also, the oil test sample results help to determine if the engine oil life should be shortened or extended. Good luck.

Im guessing the 27XX+tax is not the discount price and that the group buy price will be dependent on how many cars we are able to round up.

My blackstone report at 80km said no signs of wear excellent condition . I though I Was in the clear ...

My friend Jon W (Mfanatik ) told me we should still do the job. Anyhow , we did the bearings and mounts last week. I highly highly recommend Jon, he's honest and knowledgable and very competitive.. most of all he cares about his clients and goes beyond for them. We put in BE Bearings ARP bolts . I'm still breaking the car in almost at 800km... engine purrs : ) thanks Jon..

Take a look at the bearings removed !!!! I know Now blackstone is just a baseline measurement but by no way tells you the engine is fine , just look at my report.

BTW i just installed the charger less then 1000km ago... so these bearings referred to in my blacstone report are stock non tracked,non charged regularly maint. so sad BMW is ignoring this.

By the looks of those bearings they were due to be replaced. I've got a 2012 approaching 40,000 kms and trying to decide when to replace mine. Somewhere in the 80-100,000 km range.

I'm in Victoria though and don't know if I'd trust anyone local to do them.

2012 had different bearings then 2008. Regardless I'd do the job if you love the car. There's no mileage formula , they all look different.

This. Failure could happen at any mileage. Cases have been seen as low as 5000 miles.
