I just figured it was to show every other country that we can shoot down satellites. Nothing more.

Why else would they make it public knowledge?

It's suppose to happen tonight.

To me it is sort of strange. I think I'm more interested to see the conspiracy theories out of this.

Who knows, it could "accidently" miss and hit Iran or Venezuela.

Neuro, last year China shot down one of their satellites in a show of force. They did a great job of littering the atmosphere with over 40,000 pieces of debris, which will pose a danger to commercial and military satellites for the next 30 years.

If I had to guess, I'd say we're taking precautions to make sure everything burns up in the atmosphere on the way down...since it was, like, you know, a spy satellite

Re: Trumbull: Good stuff! It's really nice and laid back still...we moved here over 2 years ago from NJ and bought a house there. There are some pretty cool towns in the area, all nice and quiet -- good contrast to my job in NYC. Cheers!

Not in the atmosphere, otherwise it falls to Earth (and hopefully burns up). These are a bit of a poblem, but since they aren't moving very fast (relatively) they don't pose anywhere near the danger of micro-meteorites.
