Need a side gig to pay for toys.

Local CL has a really nice deal on the EF 100mm f2.8 (non-L) macro lens. I'm tempted, but broke.

Need $$$$ to feed the habit.

Mark,
I really love this lens, useful and sharp. The only thing I don't like is the 1/16th DOF at F2.8 1:1. Good contrast and color too.

AKA "ibew595" on another forum awhile ago.

Hey Kevin, long time...

Eric's trying to rebuild that forum. Got all screwed up. He's a busy man, though.

I think if I go macro, it'll be the 60mm. I just ordered a 12mm extender, so I'm going to see how that works with the 50mm f1.4.

I noticed it was down, too bad.
A 60 with extension rings works good but it is nice to be able to focus from 9" to infinity. The other thing is how much coverage you have with your other lenses too. I need something wider.

I have the 18-55mm kit lens, but don't use it much. I also have the 55-250mm, which is nice. And two primes; the 50mm f1.4 and the 35mm f2. I'd like to add a super wide, like the Tokina 11-16mm or the Canon 10-22mm.

Stare at "Pixel Peeper" for full size pictures with your body and lens of choice.
For me, the 10-22 is just too wide and I will go with the Tok. 11-16, Canon 16-35,17-40 or 17-55 EF-S. I think I want the 16-35 though.
The 8-15 is crazy wide at $1400

I bought the 17-40mm a while back, i used it a few times, but found way too much distortion for my liking, I also found images were a little soft, and the lens would sometimes hunt for a while if it couldn't focus on something, which sometimes it should have been easy for it to focus on.

so i took it back to the shop and exchanged for the 16-35mm which turns out to be worth the money as it is just more usable all around other then the shorter zoom range.

sharper, and much less distortion.

I don't regret that decision at all.

at this point in time, it sits on my 7D all the time, unless i want a super wide shot, then i put it onto my 5DII but i just normally leave the 24-70mm on the 5DII it's my every day shooter.

so if i'm carrying both, i have a pretty wide range of usability if i swap lenses around.

from 16mm all the way to a supposed 112mm between the 2 cameras.

I like the weight of the 16-35mm as well, its just a nice unit.

Good advice. I decided I could do without a wife, so the lens will be mine tomorrow, provided it checks out.

haha, if it works, it's a good way to go!

the single life works, however, the girlfriend keeps bugging me for a dog, it's only a matter of time before she realizes she won't be getting one from me.

She's on her own with a purchase like that.

Shoot it tethered to your laptop to make sure the optics are good and focus spot on. Without a wife you should be able to get the Zeiss instead

The Canon EF-S 10-22mm is now part of my collection.

Next move is to sell the T1i with the kit lens and grab a 60D.

yes, does 90% of the stuffthe 7D does, just slightly slower, and one less level, but has the swiveling display. the AF is a little simpler, but still supposed to be better then the 5DII, and the ISO is slightly worse then the 7D, but better then the T2i

lots of video functions.

I don't really care about the video. I don't use it anyway. But the better AF and the swivel screen are big advantages. Plus the somewhat better build of the body.

Has anyone ever traded in a camera at a big store like B&H? I think I read somewhere that they give you dirt for your trade, but maybe I'm wrong.

if you don't car about video why not consider a 40 or 50d?
